And I'll also add that admitting these words are racist is like saying that being coloured or a p**i is a problem, something we should be ashamed off.

I am not ashamed of being coloured, so if someone calls me coloured, I'll just say yes and? Same for P**i if I was Pakistani, there is no shame in that.

ooops I'll edit the word I just wrote!

See that is the problem, we are giving ourselves excuses to be victims, I don't think that should be the way forward, it's all too easy to create laws and for us not to make the efforts.

At least in my opoinion.

I understand why this has been done, but I don't think it is the best solution.

keshto, having met you, I can say with absolute sincerity that if the world was more like you, it would be a better place....
:halo:
But intellectually and spiritually, you are unique, which is great for you, but the rest of the world is poorer for it.

Of course, the use of the word in question has to be edited for legal reasons...I'm sure you're cool with that.
:)
Maybe, some day in the future, more people in the world will have your outlook, and we can move on from these times of hatred. But, until such times, we have to be careful about using words in public that have negative connotations, especially if you're a public figure, whether it's on the football pitch, or in front of the TV.

I see where you come from Mike and thanks for all the complements, but I still think that it is not the best way.

Again I find the solution I proposed for Suarez and Evra should have been the ideal one, what Evra's complaint and the ban issued after it has done is just create more hatred and victimization more than setting things right.

It has absolutely brought nothing positive. I really think these measures are just painting over the cracks and not tackling the real issues.

:clap

It's not as if Suarez goes spouting off racial phrases in games, a mere one-off in a phrase not considered degrotary in his native Uruguay but possibly so elsewhere. Clear the air talks, understanding of one another is the only effective way of breaking down barriers and moving forward.

This saga is just a dark day in football, Suarezs punishment been used by "celebritiess" to boost their publicity with a knee-jerk self opionated bile rather tackling the problem.

Isn't that a bit too much?

Evra has had a lot of bad press generally so he is part of the players people don't like. It is probably due to the fact that he is quite sure of himself I guess that people get antagonised by him.

I don't think an 8 match ban will do anything though, the message is don't use racist slurs, not think about what you just said and the implications.

I am even sure it increases hatred more than anything.

I think Evra and Suarez should have been made to discuss this together with a mediator. Suarez offering his apologies and Evra showing he accepted them.

i wouldnt say, saying coloured is a slur, however i would say it is wrong and its classed as racism.

Alan Hansen's references to coloured players didn't strike me as racist, however people do need to be careful with the choice of words. Very tricky subject because it's possible for someone to accidentally cause offence-I do not think many people seriously believe Hansen is a racist but if some people were offended by his words I wouldn't dismiss their concerns as an example of absurd political correctness.
