Busy week for me with my son just moved into his new house. He wanted me to finish doing that blasted wardrobe (see moan thread) so I missed everything after Root fell.

Did the wardrobe fall?

Nope, best it can be now is 245, which is almost 50 off the record.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest margins are against associate nations.

Struggled to get much work done earlier once things really went runs. So many records. Really remarkable innings from the team.

The Pakistan innings was always going to be a bit of an anti-climax, but none of the spectators will be going home disappointed.

Frustrating for Wahab- only three runs off Mick Lewis' record.

Highest score by a number 11. Surprising. Beats 43 by Shoaib Akhtar, also against England. England won that one too.

We are the best in the world! We are the best in the world! We have beaten Pakistan!! It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten Pakistan! Pakistan, birthplace of giants. Malala Yousafzai, Asif Ali Zardari, Reema Khan, Abdul Sattar Edhi, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan--we have beaten them all. We have beaten them all.

Mamnoon Hussain can you hear me? Mamnoon Hussain, I have a message for you : We have beaten your boys. Mamnoon Hussain, as they say in your language in the field hockey bars around Karachi: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."

Hales

Unbelievable stuff from a team that was the laughing stock of the world cup just 18 months ago. If we needed any more proof that this England ODI side can be something very special, this was it.

Of course it's typical of England to peak a year after the world cup (see also the rugby team). 2019 is a long way off, but given how young this side is, the sky is the limit.

England did well after the previous WC in India, then subsequently people rewrote that as easy success while the other teams regenerated.

Pakistan are ninth ranked.

England have been often strong at home, a win in India would be interesting.

What happened to left arm bowlers? Are they no longer the must-have golden arms?
