Should have 15 teams in 3 groups of 5 (2 matches per day, not necessarily from the same group) followed by Super 6 knock-out and a final - 43 matches all done and dusted in 5 weeks.

Agree. It's an utterly ludicrous schedule, compounded by the fact that the associates have been barred from the tournament. Lots of matches between not very many teams = barmy in my view.

I guess the only argument in favour is that it will even out bad luck - even the best team can have an off day, get a couple of marginal decisions or go up against a bowler who gets on a perfect roll, and wind up 60-5 after 15, with the match effectively a foregone conclusion thereafter. ODIs are somewhat unpredictable like that - while the best team will win more often than not, any team in the top 8 can beat any other team if everything goes their way. A long tournament makes it more likely that the four genuinely best teams in the tournament will compete in the semis, and reduces the chance that a single off-day or bad performance will ruin a team's chances.

Still stupid, I say. If you are going to win a world tournament, you should be capable of performing at the top of your game when you need to - you shouldn't need a second life. But I think since the 2007 World Cup, when India crashed and burned out of an un-loseable group stage, the ICC has basically tried to set up the format to guarantee that its biggest cash cows will play plenty of games, rather than provide a genuine spectacle of high class cricket that is inclusive of the whole world.

But is it a successful model? How many games are selling out? Remember the 2007 WC in the Caribbean when they made tickets 35 times the daily salary, and the stadiums were empty. And people who dared to bring Coke into stands sponsored by Pepsi were swiftly executed.

I know it seems very "cricket" for administrators to have the sole idea of making money on increased volume, but Id probably think a short, snappy tournament with lots of games that are all of value would probably make more money than one that features endless matches that people get bored off.

Sometimes less is more, its a mantra cricket could well learn.

Sussex that is because of poor icc management and poor hosting from wi Mike should know more why people didn’t come or for the matter tourist either.

Excluding that 1996 World Cup success, 1999 success, 2003 success, 2011 success and 2015 the most successful one so far, 2019 should match that considering all matches are basically guaranteed to be a sell out and England don’t have enough capacity to host ashes odi and India vs pak game that ecb and icc are basically wanting olympic stadium.
Suspect 3 or 4 times the capacity will be the demand for India games again good luck getting them in the ballot.

Icc are in a bit of a bother considering most people only really come to see India and the big teams play or more important India play in the icc events.
You can’t blame them when the one tournament India fail the competitions sees poor crowd and poor viewership and was the only World Cup to lose money and that too by a big margin.
After that they need India to do well and play lots of games considering they are worth a lot of money to icc, icc get majority of their money on icc events, without the World Cup icc don’t exist so they do need to find a way to make India play 7 odd games and guarantee of that too considering they generally bring the most fans to icc events and broadcaster are largely paying to watch them play.
It is a tough one when around 50-60k maybe even more are actively travelling to watch India play in World Cup will get higher every World Cup as well when Indian get richer and travel more.
Although if they wanted to they could do a best of both worlds
