Fair enough but it’s also against the Australian 2nd X1. Still, nice entertainment for the home crowd - who are also used to seeing Broad hoop it round corners. :)

You score 480 in 50 overs vs Zimbabwe's C team, Id still say its pretty bloody stunning.

Fielding and catching from England has been very decent too today.

You can still see room for improvement, Root is out of touch, Stokes needs to be slotted back in somewhere. Willey and Wood are question marks. I'd like to see Curran in the side.

I don't know how many ODI's Vince has played, but this is easily his best format and he should be somewhere on the fringes.

500 was a gimme at 45.3 overs, plus they had a relatively sedate start so the middle 35 overs had to be off the scale.

Important wickets for Willey. I see a lot of criticism of the bowlers elsewhere, but they are taking wickets and that's key to winning modern ODIs. Rashid and Plunkett are big wicket takers in the middle overs, even though a touch expensive. Moeen has stepped up with a few in this series (he's more economical than the others). And Woakes has to come back who has a great ODI strike rate. While it would be encouraging if the bowlers had better ERs, in the context of the present day, they are doing a job. Arguably Stokes is the weak link, but of course he gets in as a batter anyway, and is probably their best fielder.

Still, it's a batting side of course.

Maybe add Mitches 2+3, Cummins, Haze, Wee Davey and Smith and it'll be a different story?

But where does Stokes slot in....surely cant bump Hales out now.

We never go across to Australia for random ODI series. Why do they seem to come here for them fairly frequently?

:D

481. Well well well. Someone ate their weetabix this morning. What a performance. :salute

Maybe we should ask the Aussies to follow-on. If they bat again, maybe they'd get close to England's score?

OK, gloat over. But can we play every game at next year's world cup at Trent Bridge please?

I see Tye just avoided Mick Lewis' record for worst ever ODI figures, as Paine was kind enough not to make him bowl his tenth over, instead letting Finch bowl one...

Terrific innings yesterday at his home ground but he needs to be more consistent. Hasn't got the greatest odi record although the innings yesterday will help his stats.

I think England are in a position where they should be selecting players in form, so Joe Root could consider his position under threat with his recent poor form. In saying that Stokes is nowhere near his best after his absence from the game, his poor showing in the IPL, and his recent injury.

If memory serves, he spent the early part of his career being pretty poor, so to average now high 30s with a SR approaching a run a ball, he must have put in about 40 matches of very high quality scoring. Interesting point about Root. Great run scorer in ODIs but is his high 80s SR holding us back more than benefiting?

Personally I think Stokes will replace Willey. But at the moment I would be hesitant to fix something that isnt broken.

Stokes has to be a sixth bowler I think. I don't think he's currently reliable enough to not be a weak link in a five person attack. And England don't need Stokes or Buttler in at seven. Mo and Woakes at 7/8 is fine. Have a better bowler in the side.

Not to say England won't do that. Coaches always seem to want to extend their batting but seem uninterested in extending the bowling. Having an expensive bowler with a poor SR like Stokes as a bowler who has to bowl ten is just a waste of a remarkable glut of all rounders England have.
