Maybe Australia should go with 4 quicks...

Smith got some wickets in the first tour game, perhaps he can just carry Australia for batting and bowling?

Didnt he conceed 10 an over?

I don't think we can read into this match too much without visiting the ground.

850 runs in 2 days makes me think the curator just graduated from high school.

Just read this;

"Stuart Kerrison celebrates 25 years at Essex CCC,

I'm not sure anyone involved with Essex County Cricket Club realised, at the time, just how significant the signing they made back in the spring of 1984 would be, when a fresh-faced Stuart Kerrison walked through the gates at the County Ground to begin his youth training scheme.

Yet, twenty-five years later, minus the fresh face, Stuart is still there, and regarded as one of the best cricket groundsmen in the country".

Probably answers a lot of questions as to why the bat dominates the ball so much. If this bloke is one of the best then Darwin help the long format of the game.

It goes on to say this;

"Why Stuart got into cricket remains a bit of a mystery, but he claims that, if his mum had allowed him to join the army, he may well have never set foot in a cricket ground. Stuart certainly isn't a big watcher of the sport and, apart from the opening over or two (to see if his pitch is playing okay), he tends to spend his matchdays reading, entertaining his young family or happily chatting to staff and members".

Seriously, you've got to be kidding. He doesn't even watch the game to see how his pitch evolves.

Hopefully we won't get another Trent Bridge, 2014.

Death of game by pitch.

Practically nothing carried the the slips who were standing unusually close.

Right, at least I give credit to the West Indies curators, they left an awful lot of grass on the pitch.

Thats what happened for the rest of the games. It seems over here that the pitches are moribund, so the groundsperson leaves loads of grass on to get a lot of the game done in the first few days, before the pitch dies. But leaving loads of grass on the surface means that the pitch doesn't crack and break up at the back end.

My hunch is the ECB will serve up a load of insipid surfaces for the Australians.

Leaving a load of grass on a pitch that doesn't crack up is too much of an advantage at the toss. You should pay for the benefit of bowling on the first morning with the risk of batting last against the spinners. Otherwise there's no dilemma.
