I don't know why we persist in playing 2 test series against New Zealand. They're a very good side. They deserve longer series. Unfortunately, I suspect the answer lies purely in cash - a NZ series won't draw the viewing figures that Australia, India or Pakistan will.

I think NZ benefit from these short series, at least as far as test championship ranking points go

but I agree with you. 2 test series are just a nonsense really..... sort of thing you do with Zimbabwe merely to fulfil the minimum number of matches on a TV contract

According to George Dobell another player in the England squad could be in trouble over offensive tweets of a racist & homophobic nature. Cricinfo haven't named the player who was under 16 when he posted the tweets but Dobell thinks he likely to face disciplinary action.

Reading BBC comments, seems many are happy to believe Robinson is being victimised for the understandable and far from uncommon folly of youth. PM Johnson is surfing this wave too.

Yes, Dobell mentioned that his age at the time could be a factor. It seems though as if the ECB may be embarrassed again because I did a quick twitter search and ,if the player is who I'm fairly sure it must be, it's unfortunate timing.
Haven't seen the tweets in question but some posts suggest they are not as bad as the Robinson ones.

While I have a modicum of sympathy for the 'folly of youth' argument (i.e. who didn't do or say something when young trying to be funny/impress your mates that you now regret), how do the youth (or anyone) learn to be better if there are no consequences for their actions? Do nothing, and all you teach people is that it doesn't matter what you say, provided you become important enough you can get away with it (as many politicians appear to be demonstrating).

It's not fully about the individuals involved. It's about a message. How many women or non-white cricketers in clubs all over England have seen these tweets and felt that cricket is unwelcoming and bigoted? How many have endured similar comments from other club members over the years, even if it is a long time ago? Acting sends a message not just to the individuals involved but anyone playing in a cricket club anywhere - this sort of behaviour can not be tolerated.
