Great to see Afghanistan leave the Cup with a win to their name. They've been competitive in all of their games and have been consistently better than Zimbabwe over the last year or so. I do wonder whether their inability to field a woman's side will block their progress towards being a full member in the future.

Poignant questions now needs to be asked about the place of low tier sides in the world cups. This tournament could easily be longer to accommodate more teams

Even Chris Gayle is celebrating with the Afghans.

Not sure he should be doing that.

Im sure some kill joys might have a go, but good for him. Its nice to see he has time to recognise the effort of the Afghanistan team.

That, or the fact he backed them at 15/1 this morning

The ICC will say that this is what they did with the pre-tournement.

I didnt get that at all. The group stages lasted 12 days, now with a huge gap between games for the knockouts.

Just add all the teams from the pre-tournament to the main one, condense the end, and there you go.

Two matches a day, with each team playing every couple of days if manageable for this type of game.

Perhaps the best thing that could happen for the associates is if USA or China look like they might qualify, so the ICC widens the gates to make sure they get through. Much as FIFA did with CONCACAAF. I reckon the 16 team WC might have been for one the USA got to. I doubt the Afghan market is going to quicken pulses at the ICC.
