Guppy is injured. Big loss if there's any play.

Yesterday the ABC radio called him New Zealand captain, Martin Guptill.

Obviously not a cricket fan.

I like hearing the newsreaders pause and stumble over the pronunciation of (mainly) cricketers names when Aus are playing a sub-continental or even Seffer team.

Sri Lanka can be tough for the commentators.

Apart from Angelo Mathews. Though watch the spelling.

Aussie media should be alert to that given the tendency for their wicket keepers to lose letters off the end of their names.

I just got out of bed to watch this and now I hear talk of rain, reminds me of times when I got into the school eleven and it p!ssed down all day. I got dropped for the next game without playing. The Sports master aid he'd make a man of me. Must of been part of his cunning plan.

Showers they say, and clearing up later, so there might be a game.

I cringe hearing Ponting and co pronounce Dutch or Aficaans names. One is called Dawarshuis which they pronounce dwar shoos or thereabouts. Now Huis is a house and is pronounced very close to the English way. so it should be simple for them to find out that it's Dwars house. The meaning of Dwars is unimportant but it means something like 'out of alignment' Surely someone can ask the player how his name is pronounced, maybe Dwarshuis told them but he doesn't know either.

there was another guy in the BBL whose surname was Labuschagne and they had a bit of trouble with that

one of their on field reporters spoke to him and even he gave 2 different pronunciations of it

looks like i was being overly optimistic

at this rate it looks like we will be lucky to get a game in at all

dont think there has been any more rain, just a very wet outfield that isn't draining very well

no idea whats going on here

its been something like 5 hours since the rain stopped and from the reports there wasn't even a ridiculous amount of rain but the outfield is still too wet to play

inspection coming up, if its still too wet then thats it i think as they need to start in 45 minutes time to even get a 20 over game in

match abandoned

alot of unhappy people given it hasn't rained since about an hour before play was due to start

at least i wont have to strain the grey matter counting FL scores today

I heard a couple of years ago that he said to pronounce it "Dworshus" and most do that. Got to remember that names do evolve, especially when they become immersed in a foreign language/culture. Labuschagne is a classic example - he said that they family accepted the Larbooshane pronunciation as Australians (and the entire English speaking world, I imagine) has trouble with the guttural dutch/afrikaans G. Maybe Dwarshuis' family have been here for some time, and a similar thing happened.
