Yeah root and burns did well to turn the ship away from the iceberg, but still well behind and not a lot of form left.

Still impossible to find enough superlatives for Anderson. Yet again he hauls England back from the brink and gives some hope.

Hameed had to be nerves, surely? Sussex is absolutely right, that was hopeless, no footwork at all. I know he had form issues, but from everything I've read, he's better than that.

England 245 runs behind. If Root takes care of the 45, then the rest of the team might have a hundred runs in them, so if everything goes okay and there isn't a dramtaic collapse it feels to me as though they'll end up 100 runs behind India.

And in truth this batting line up does look as though 250 is about all they have in them at this point in time, so 100 run deficit might be as good as it gets

Not to worry.... if this line up fails there are lots of other England cricketers currently playing rounders that they can draw upon

the lad has only made a couple of fifties since he scored 2 hundreds against Worcs back in April, and those were a month ago. No red ball cricket to play since early July and that came after a month of T20

There have only been 2 rounds of county championship cricket since the very beginning of June, so anyone coming into the England side against a good quality test attack is very likely to have two hopes.... Bob Hope and no hope

As long as the fixtures continue to be scheduled this way England will continue to be a mediocre test side at home and a hopelessly embarrassing one away from home

England look on course for at least parity. But I guess the flaky lower order is a probably usually

Depends on Root. If he bats through England will get a good lead. If he's out next, it'll end in a rush.
