Do England have a team world cup in anything at the moment?

I think they have a chance in Oz. I can't imagine the euphoria on cricket match special if they were to win. When you look at the reactions when the Ryder Cup is won, and that's against a single country.

i can guarantee there would be considerably more posts if we lost all our games and came last than there would if we won the whole thing

when we win the forum is pretty quite, when we lose their will be pages and pages of stuff

i am watching the struggles of india/sri lanka/windies and thinking hmmm maybe we actually have some sort of chance

Extremely unlikely England will finish higher than third in their group. But if they finish third, they will play India, and they have a notional chance in that contest. But if England get past the quarters, I'll eat a piece of cheese.

they wont lose to Scotland or Afghanistan and Bangladesh have gone backwards as a team imo

I'm with rich on this. England's chances against both NZ and SL are not as bleak as they once appeared, though of course it will require good performances from several players on the same day.

does concern me a bit how little flexibility we have in the squad , especially when the guy who is meant to be the one to provide that flexibility, bopara, is the guy who is struggling the most

its almost like we cant drop him because doing so leaves us with only joe root for bowling cover

Bizarre decision to take two spare batsmen out of four available slots. Names suggested on here at the time IIRC, included Stokes/Samit/Rashid/Willey.

They wanted to take Stokes. The place would have been his had he shown some form.

Have any other all rounders been picked recently? It's been a while since Patel played, about 5 years since Rashid, and I doubt England wanted another spinner. Ballance is someone they like. Was in ODI squads earlier in the year, did will in the tests and apparently impressed with the development squad.

I agree that the squad is imbalanced with Ballance instead of Stokes, but I can see why they went that way.

SL have just beaten England home and away, so must be favourites in that head to head.

England's recent record is so bad that you have to actually be looking at it to comprehend it. If you lose focus you start thinking they must be better than they are.

Ballance came in for Cook didn't he?

Though I suppose Taylor was an addition to the SL squad, so they were already a batter up before Cook dropped out. Yes, it should have been two of Taylor, Ballance or Hales.
