Question: How many times has the team winning the tri series in Australia gone on to win the world cup?

Ok I'm working on this Mark, I have two pages open on Wiki feeling like a complete nerd.

West Indies did it in 1979.
1987 Australia lost to England. Australia won the World cup beating England. Interesting.
1992 Australia beat India. Pakistan won the world cup beating England.
1996 Australai beat Sri Lanka, in the World cup Sri lanka beat Australia.
1999 and 2003 Australia won both.
2007 England beat Australia in the tri series and Australia beat Sri Lanka in the world cup.
2011Australia beat Sri Lanka and India finished third only to reverse that to beating Sri Lanka in the finals.

In Quatermass and the Pit we find that there is evidence of another intelligent species in our history, and the twist at the end is that we on earth now are the alien invaders and the other beings were the native people. I have a little inkling that there must be some of that strange horror in the hearts of many Australians. They profess a dislike of the Poms, and yet they were those people themselves...

Yes and there have been many an argument to this ruling of Pohm and what it means and how it's spelled. I remember 30 odd years ago listening to a historian on the radio saying that there was no clear proof of what the convicts were originally called. Even Wikipedia seems confused.

I like to think they were called Pohms and not the pom argument from as being pomegranates. That latter makes no sense because it's like which came first the chicken or the egg? To nickname the English prisoners poms (from sunburning) suggests there were already Australians there that spoke English. Um nope there were not. Those be Aboriginals and I doubt pomegranate was in their vocab.

I think it came from prisoners of her majesties services.

Not sure if we will ever know, but as always I stand to not be corrected.

as you say, it will probably forever be a matter on conjecture - or that we just stop caring.

Another reason I have heard is that their (the convicts) papers were stamped Prisoner on Migration, or P.O.M.

Interesting I didn't know that one or I forgot I knew that. Either way that's a definite possibility that that could be the answer.

I see as you are 91, you were already quite mature when you went to Australia, Waugh Twins. Maybe too mature to make the switch to supporting the Aussies. If you'd stuck with us, you'd have had twenty years of humiliation, but you would have had 2005.
