No matter how bad the opposition is, declaring at 583 is hardly unusual. Especially for a guy whose captaincy tenure has been marked with pitiful un-Australian conservatism, this was a welcome change.

Don't see how this absolute garbage of a team gets the privilege of a Boxing Day Test.

Ok, so this match really sucked. Smith declared a session too soon; Voges deserved his triple, and the under fire Mitch Marsh could have scored some runs. My guess is that Australia will be Mitchless on Boxing Day when Khawaja comes back in.

I reckon 3 permutations have a better chance of happening than that - Aus selectors are very keen for MM to work. "An allrounder WILL be selected" is their mantra.

1. Uzzie won't be selected - unlikely
2. Shaun Marsh won't be selected - more likely
3. your boy, Joe Burns, won't be selected, and SMarsh opens. Maybe even more likely.

I will drink a beer if MMarsh is dropped. (far tastier than a hat)

He was doing Voges a favour, by preserving his average against the Windies.

It's currently running at something like 436. Imagine if he got out, it would be around 230.....

Its incredibly bad for Windies cricket this. The problems must be even worse than we thought..... they let Marsh score 182!!! Possibly the worst day in the Windies cricket history.

Aside from Lil Bravo's century, and Kraigg's second innings 94, there's no other positives to take from this....

Not Sure what all the fuss about the declaration is. Smith would have declared earlier if there weren't showers before lunch probably. Other than Bravo and Brathwaite, Holder was the only one deserving credit. Bowled tidily and was unlucky with the bat. Hopefully two weeks of actually having a coach will get them better prepared for Melbourne.

That DRS result points out a flaw in the system, I reckon. More than 3/4 of the ball was hitting the stumps and it went to umpire's call. Less than half the ball, fair enough, but this was (predicted to) smash the stumps.

I've never really got the problem with this. The decision is weighted towards the onfield decision because the ball tracking is flawed and they don't want to overturn a correct decision, just a clearly wrong decision. Just because the graphic shows the ball hitting the stumps, it isn't necessarily what would have happened. Anything within a likely margin of error stays on the field.

There is a margin of error even if the ball is predicted to hit the base of middle stump. Sure, they need to allow for margin of error - and that is supposed to be 50% of the ball, this was 80% of the ball hitting the stump.

Maybe the margin of error was allowing for the fact that the ball may have passed between middle and leg stumps....

I was out and didn't see this one : but surely this is a case of an error displaying the graphic ? It is a margin of error of 50% of the ball hitting - and that is what is normally displayed (though it is only a pictorial representation of what is predicted to have happened ). Unlikely they would have got the actual ruling wrong...

I see comment about Khawaja having to "prove he is completely fit" before being selected for the Test . So I suspect Option 1 is not out of the question.

I see from Mike's post above that it is referred to as a Victoria XI, not Victoria.

Otherwise, it would be a real smack in the face to the Windies. Not that this isn't, anyway.
