Johnson back with a bang , eh ?

Poor Morgan seems to have just inherited the Captain's Curse from Cook : barring one excellent innings on this trip he has been unable to buy a run - indeed his record has been pretty bad for quite a while now. If he doesn't find some form in the Cup he may well be at risk as England look to build a fifty over team for the future.

This match looks nailed on for Australia now. The way the England top order has folded here it may not matter that Australia probably ended up with about thirty runs more than they should have...

Nevertheless , I'm not too bothered about England's form here , from a World Cup point of view . As long as they don't have to play Australia in a knock out match they have a decent chance of progressing deep into the tournament : the bowling looks pretty handy , and most of the bats have shown something at times in this series. Bopara needs some runs here though , especially if they don't want to use him as a bowler.

Bopara's footwork is dreadful well non existent really.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

His 2014 record is below average if we consider the average: SR ratio.

Probably inherited Chris martins technique today. It was a very bad judgement of line and length. Well left on to the stumps.

Is ravi bopara the worst cricketer to have played 100 ODIs, he literally contributes nothing to this team (cue match winning hundred)

Assuming Australia top group A, then if England finish 2nd or 4th they can only possibly meet again in the final. 3rd spot would allow them to meet in the semis.

I think I'd take the semis at the moment :)

One can always hope someone else knocks them out in the meantime anyway...

This may well come back to bite me ; but despite the tendency to collapse early with the bat , I think England are capable of beating most teams in Australian conditions. I say most : the hosts seem to have their number , and not sure how they'd go against SA ...though of course the latter never win knock out games...all for the future.

Buttler has started well here : at least he has a chance to play himself in for a proper innings today.

rested, I think

could be wrong

England appear to be losing atm. Last 2 bat, and only the bowlers to come. They ought to hang around long for Aus to blow them away in the PP's

I don't even know when the PP's are any more...... It has been so long since I saw an ODI

said exactly the same thing the other day

keeps getting picked on potential and that he can "bowl a bit" , has the very occasional game where he contributes and that keeps him in the reckoning for another year

Maxwell Day ! Now he's on a hat trick...

(And Woakes completes his Ultimate Horror Day)

This day started well for England , but has been downhill from about the first twenty overs of the Australian innings. Bit disappointing , if not entirely unexpected.

At least Broad can have a go now , which should be entertaining while it lasts .
