I'd be amazed if they dropped Shiv.

By far the most consistent player in their side and one of the most loyal.

Didn't have a good series against England but it proves he's mortal like the rest of us.

'West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Dave Cameron said the public should know within days whether Shivnarine Chanderpaul has a future with the West Indies team. The 40-year-old Chanderpaul, affectionately referred to as 'Tiger', is the second highest run-scorer in West Indies Test history with 11,867 runs - including 30 centuries - at an average of 51.37. However, in his last 11 innings, the Tiger has been toothless in scoring just 183 runs - 91 in five innings against South Africa and 92 in six against England. He recently met with members of the Windies hierarchy to discuss his future with the team. Cameron told The Gleaner yesterday he was unable to disclose how those discussions turned out. "Unfortunately, I am not privy to the discussions, but obviously it is where he is at and what are the next steps," Cameron said. "In another couple of days it will be made a lot clearer as to the end result of those discussions or how we go forward."'

"Long serving West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul will not face Australia in the upcoming two-Test series in the Caribbean, starting on June 3 in Dominica. The Guyanese left hander, just 86 runs shy of Brian Lara’s record for the most Test runs, has been overlooked by the regional selectors and as a consequence Lara’s record will stand. Chanderpaul had two poor series against South Africa in South Africa and England in the West Indies, where he averaged just 16 runs per innings. T&T Guardian understands that the management of the team tried to get Chanderpaul to call it a day but was met with resistance and as such they had no choice but to go without him."

Poor Shiv.

He didn't look like scoring runs, against an ordinary England attack.

Even so, sad end. Presumably he felt he had more to give, unless he was hanging on for the record.

"It was reported that at least two Directors of the West Indies Cricket (WICB) and its President Dave Cameron managed to override the surprising decision by Chairman of Selectors Clive Lloyd to sack 40-year-old Guyanese Shiv Chanderpaul from the team for the two-Test series against Australia which starts on June 3 in Dominica. This happened at a WICB retreat at the Accra Beach Hotel in Barbados yesterday. “The WICB is having a retreat with its players, staff and directors and (Anand) Sanasie and another Director were able to convince enough Directors and the President to override Lloyd and the selection panel to give Chanderpaul his last series”, a well placed source told Kaieteur Sport."

Looks as if Shiv has been dropped. If so it's a poor decision-there may be little room for sentiment in sport so the fact that he's just short of Lara's run record maybe shouldn't be a factor but is a series against Australia really the best time to replace him with a rookie?
. This was a tough decision for the selection panel to make," West Indies' convenor of selectors Clive Lloyd said in a statement.
"We recognise the significant contribution Chanderpaul has made to the West Indies' teams over the last two decades, but we want to take this opportunity to introduce a number of young, promising players into the squad."

And here's the 12-man training squad....

Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Veerasammy Permaul, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor

http://www.espncricinfo.com/west-indies ... 80831.html

Five batsmen, a keeper, Jason Holder, and five bowlers. This seems to be a batsman light, and Hope is still there as an opening batsman. This training squad will probably play some unofficial warm-ups against the President's XI, so maybe some more players might be added from that squad.

"The squad for the first Test against the Australians will be finalised next Friday. It coincides with the final day of the tour match between the WICB President’s XI, a composite side of Test hopefuls, and the Aussies, starting next Wednesday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua."
