The only camera you can go on is from the side, as the front on perspective isn't reliable, and side on it looked like it bounced. The commentators though have decided that every close catch is out and the umps are cowards or idiots for not giving them. That's the new convention.

All bowlers first instinct is to appeal if they think something happened singling out Broad is unfair. If you don't ask you don't get.

They appeal when they know it's not out. And they appeal in the style that English journos used to criticise Pakistani spinners for appealing back in the 70s/80s. It's now the norm, but England really push this, especially given their supposed change in approach. NZvSL wasn't like this. Nothing wrong with asking the question. It's the theatricals designed to coerce the umpire I don't like.
