The most interesting dynamic for this test is what the pitch is going to do. There seems an expectation that the pitch will dry and harden, become quicker and bouncier as is historically typical, but I am not so sure. Ponting was saying right at the start that usually the new ball gives a bit of swing, then after 30 minutes the pitch loses its green tinge and becomes harder almost instantly, today that really didnt happen, and it was a tame affair throughout. Will another day under the sun make that much of a difference?

The worry is, Lyon was getting a bit of grip off the pitch (the only real threat) due to that excess moisture left in the surface, and if the pitch is sluggish and dries, its simply going to take that turn away and turn into a bowler death trap.

Certainly was disheartening to see Aussie bowlers up to 90mph on day 1, digging in head height bouncers that ended at the keepers ankles.

Alison Mitchell doesnt seem to know fielding place names, and at one point described a ball whizzing through the covers as "going through the gap where no Australian fielders are standing", after seeming to stutter looking for the technical name.

Alison Mitchell is an experienced commentator who has worked on TMS for several years. She knows cricket, plays a little herself and certainly knows the fielding positions. It isn't necessary to demonstrate your knowledge by continually using the right terms. There was a gap and Alison called it.

I used to believe that cricketers themselves would always use the correct terminology until I once heard Alec Stewart directing fielders and telling one of them to stand in front of a particular advertising hoarding.

Its also going to be interesting to see how Stoneman copes on other pitches. Thought he was unconvincing in very easy conditions when the Aussie quicks got the short ball right. And Vince also played a lot of strokes on the up at points. Bit of extra zip and bounce, not sure either will get away with that

Intresting part would be if Australia will ask for quick wicket, they normally think they hold the moral high ground because they never state orders to groundsman like other teams do or all the other teams do.

It might be that if the pitch started a touch damp that there will be dents from the ball that may then deteriorate. But my guess is the pitch is going to just get flatter.

it is bit different working on tv though, hasn't really done much tv work barring the ICC woman world cup games, this will actually be the first time she is leading the team on tv.
big ask asking a tv novice to essentially lead the comm team for the ashes.
crazy BT didn't employ more lead commentator to have one lead commentator is poor stuff.
Scrap that BT got 2 lead commentators Damien fleming is a lead commentator but having 2 lead commentators in a team of 6 or 7 is poor stuff.

either way if it is damp England are screwed, would mean Australia got the best of the conditions.
Day 2-3 should be the best of the batting.

I think I am going to bed after this session. Conditions looking set for a boring, high scoring test match unless one team throws it away with the bat.

If all the pitches are like this il be watching the series via the highlights

chance would be a fine thing. I can't find anything at all on free to air. Ashes might as well not be happening.

Still........ there may be as many as 300,000 BT sport subscribers so that will stop interest in cricket dying, I'm sure
