Not really as Hales was brought in to replace Lyth so if he doesn't open and Bell does then Taylor comes into Bell's position.
Cook
Bell
Taylor
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Moeen
Rashid
Two Pacemen

Alternatively Stokes or Buttler are replaced by an extra paceman. The bowling situation hasn't changed at all. Either Stokes is third seamer or someone else is chosen.

I'm not suggesting Bell should open but why didn't Hales and Ali open together today unless they have something else in mind.

Bell and Taylor retire and Stokes out for a duck, not a great time for him and one wonders how long they can keep the faith.

Going by the way he played in Sri Lanka last year I can't see stokes getting into double figures in this series

I don't see Stokes being dropped. He had a good English summer. I don't even think these games will influence selection. They'll start with the team they intended to when they left England. This is just acclimatisation.

Another failure for Buttler, this is becoming too regular an occurrence to be ignored.

Can't even be sure Bell opened. Cricinfo says the openers failed.

Seven down. England might get another bowl.

Seems Stokes and Buttler are becoming acclimatized to failing with the bat which surely cannot be completely ignored.

I hope some of our players go back in.

They need the practice.

Lots of low scores in both games. Everyone either getting 0-10 or a fifty.

That could be 15 wickets.

The commentary shows Bell opening and Hales coming in at 3. If that was an error it would have been corrected by now.
