Alviro Petersen was better than van Zyl....

Not according to their Test and first-class records. Anyway, Petersen retired a while ago.

Unless van Zyl does better in his second innings, his Test batting average will be less than Alviro's....

Alviro retired after the usually hounding by certain aspects of the media, raising the usual "quota" rant. Those same sections of the media aren't exactly calling for van Zyl to be given the same treatment.

The treatment of Alviro, Langeveld and Ntini be certain aspects of the cricket media has been nothing short of disgraceful....

It's up to van Zyl to come up with something better in the second innings of this Test, and the second Test, to justify that clamour to get rid of Alviro.

Suggestion on cricinfo that Steyn and ABDV will retire from Tests after this series.

Steyn isn't surprising and I'd be happy for him to retire when he is still as good as ever

But AB would be very dissapointing as he is only 31 which is very young for a batsmen of his quality to retire
