Don't think England have had that kind of pace since Harmison. Craig White before him.

97 mph would put him up their as the fastest bowler going around at present.

Certainly gives England another option.

Wickets against Roy shouldn't count for tests....but at least that should be the end of him in tests.

It feels like this test will have a result.

Lots in this pitch for the bowlers.

Roy worse than I thought.

Ahead of the series I did feel, in a world where an openers slot was up for grabs and 765 other people had tried and failed, that perhaps he'd earned his chance

I suppose the only question now remaining is when the selectors will decide is the best face saving time to get rid of him

alfie wrote:Reckon that spell from Archer showcased the best way to use him. He has pace and stamina ...but right now probably less effective with the new ball as his length and general movement in to the right hander are better suited to the bouncier tracks (will be interesting to see him in Australia next tour !).
More sense to use Woakes at the start and save Archer for the follow up spell.

spot on!

I was surprised he opened with Broad..... unless they thought there was no swing around for Woakes.

There is absolutely no chance that Anderson wouldn't have opened proceedings if he'd been playing

Archer should definitely be there for when the ball isn't doing much

Denly fails to kick on again

England can lose this match between now and COP. Find themselves 5 or 6 down tonight and I'd make the Aussies favourite to win tomorrow

even after losing 5 sessions it doesn't feel like a 'draw' test

ICC might revise any thoughts they have of reducing tests to 4 days. After watching this England shower bat, they might decide they can get away with 3 day tests..... fit in loads of extra T20Is into the international schedule

Now would probably be a good time for Bayleaf to tell Stokes, Buttler and Bairstow to get out there and dominate the bowling..... hit the Aussies out of the game

In normal circumstances, Denly would be dropped. But his 20s are about as good as we can hope for at the moment!

Big innings for Buttler here.

The only batsman making runs this series is Burns and that's only because he's had so much luck on his side.

Presume Roy will be the first to go, but could be around 3 or 4 others fighting for their place.
