Got out at the end just so no one thinks he was batting for red ink.

150 off 77 balls.

Have to see if that's best SR for an England player scoring 100+

Cant be. He scored a 120 off about 50 balls v Pakistan a bit ago.

Buttler went from 50 to 150 in 32 balls

Crazy

If he played for any other team I'd say he should be batting in the top 3 or 4

But because we have Roy and bairstow (both strike at 100+) then root and Morgan

We have the perfect top 5 to build 350+ scores consistently

At least Brathwaite can comfort himself with getting Stokes.

Players have hit it further than buttler

But I don't think I have ever seen a player hit it out of the middle so consistently

Absolute freak, his wrists must be incredibly strong as he isn't a big lad

Root's an excellent ODI player. But on a day like this, he actually helps the side by getting out early.

Presume the outfield is about the size of Upton Park.

Root is the key player when we are chasing scores down or when the openers get out early

But he doesn't have the 6 hitting ability of bairstow, Roy, Morgan or buttler

His batting technique almost reminds me of a golf swing at times, especially when he hits the shorter ball. He stands tall, his body (unless he goes premeditated) is always very still, and his backlift is controlled. Watch him play a pull shot and how his leading leg is planted as he swings his arms, only changing position once the follow through comes round..... not many people could turn the body with that much force, and remain stable on their feet. And when he goes on the move, his head is always on the ball.

Its core strength for me. And because he watches the ball, he doesnt need to middle it all the time. He scores so many fours with shots you can tell he judges that bit later, but which he is able to then adapt to hit the ball into gaps.

The short of it; hes a brilliant stroke maker.

Second fastest innings of 100+ for England. Jos has four of the fastest seven.

Good on Jos....

I find characters like Buttler and Cottrell make the game more enjoyable. Once it's done in good humour, as the salute has been done on both sides.

Given that Bravo and Hope both have SRs of less than 75, I'm not too optimistic about the West Indies making a game of this.

Seems to have longer to choose from a wider range of shots.

As the ball comes down the track I imagine a computer readout displaying the diminishing number of possible shots as the ball moves towards the batter. He looks like he has more shots for longer.

Dhoni gave that impression at his peak.
