Yes i am comparing to players like Warner Sanga Rohit Virat Amla ABD and some other prolific players of highly ranked teams.

These partnerships of 50+ runs is not that great in present time considering players are scoring well over 125+150+ 175 and in some cases 200+ 250+ individually

Credit for the one win to level the series so far but England are way behind in ODI format in many aspects. The comparison is tough but that's how it stand in this era as far as top teams are compared.

To be honest, Adi, I don't think it is entirely fair to say England are "way behind" in ODI cricket. Over the summer England showed that they could compete and beat the two World Cup finalists and produced ODI cricket at the level you will see from any top side. India looked less confident about how to play ODI cricket against South Africa recently than England have done since the World Cup.

At the end of the day, this side has only played 12 ODIs together as a unit and under the current Coaching set up and they have made huge strides. England need to develop consistancy in all areas, but that can only be judged over a period of time, not 12 ODIs.

I am not taking into consideration a small sample of matches at all. It will be interesting to see how many centuries England batsmen have scored over a long period (lets pick last 15 years) of time as compared to batsmen from Australia South Africa and India who are usually at the top of ODI rankings. Also the highest individual scores can be compared between teams.

England will play better cricket than these three teams in a given series or small period of time but the consistency is just not there overall and it gets reflected in these rankings. So playing one or two series better than top ranked ODI teams is not the real measure.

What does the last 15 years have to do with anything, Adi? You stated that England are a long way behind in ODI cricket. That is a comment about where the team are now. Of course England have not had the best record looking at the past of ODI cricket, but that is just that, the past.

Following the World Cup, England have changed their approach to ODI cricket and are playing as well as anyone at present. Sometimes it feels as if you go out of your way to down play English ODI cricket and players.

They are back on this tomorrow. England will feel that the eleven that won the last game has established itself as the first choice for the series. But if it is their intention to give everyone a game, with two games to go, now is the time for change. Bairstow, Billings, Jordan and Plunkett give England two batter keepers and two seamers in reserve. Not the most alluring of alternatives. My guess is they will keep he same team together and only make changes if England lose in Sharjah tomorrow. If there is a swap, Bairstow for Buttler feels likeliest, unless there is a tactical u-turn and Plunkett comes in for Rashid..

If you feel that then there is no point in debating with the perception you have about me. BTW i have appreciated Matt Prior and Ben Stokes in the thread i created about them. In fact i supported and defended Monty when almost all fans over here wanted him to be dropped and Monty took 5fers and won series versus us in our home. Did i say everyone downplayed English player (Monty). :?: Maybe you did not read my threads and posts so i can understand you comment like this. However i still feel England does not has ODI batsmen of same quality which other top teams have had over many many years.

Again, I really don't see what that has to do with anything. England don't have a Tendulkar, Ponting, Lara, Hayden, Gilchrist. Neither do any other side because they have all retired and have zero impact on the an ODI played today.

You stated that England are a long way behind. I simply pointed out that at present England are playing as well as any side. What went on in the past is completely irrelevant to where England or any other side are right now, and the fact of the matter is that only factor England are behind in is experiance, and you can't magically make that appear.

At 1-1 in a 4 match series, I imagine that we plan to have the same side for both remaining games.

Looking at the current line-up, 2 of my usual gripes appear to have been resolved: slow bowling and batting depth.

We have picked 2 spinners in the side and Woakes/Rashid/Willey are a very good 8/9/10.

If we could just get a part-time bowler in the top 5 (Moeen?) and a wicket taking strike bolwer (Finn?) in the side, even I might get optimistic about our ODI tournament chances...

Too easy on this pitch for these two openers, I fancy 300 is very possible for Pakistan.

Woakes breaks throgh with a short delivery top edged to Rashid at deep long leg. Woakes got his wickets in the last test with short deliveries.
