what i saw was fairly promising, he looked fairly solid in defence and hit a few nice crisp drives

Superb spell by Steyn. As a result England openers looked clueless and ultimately contributed almost nothing as a pair. At 54/3, with Joe dismissed, the long batting lineup which England has in this match can take them to a respectable total.

Clueless? Hales looked pretty solid before the rain break.

Just 10 runs by two opening batsmen is nothing. Sometime the out swinger was played like inswinger. Delivery which could be left was poked at due to uncertainity about off stump or due to not knowing which way it will move. In some shots there was no surety at all. But it happens, Steyn is class bowler.

The ball hasn't swung at all, it has seamed

and it is impossible to anticipate which way the ball will seam

Good batting by Taylor. Scored fours of both bad balls bowled by Piedt in the over.

Taylor continues to make his prolonged period of absence from the Test side one of the worst decisions made by Flower, and that's saying something.

Just turned this on. Looks a commendable return by Compo.

Taylor, having faced obstacles getting back into the side, was said to be about to be found out by pace. So encouraging that he's still there.

If this is a bowling day at Durban, this is a great effort by England. If it's not, they're doing really badly....
I always say that everybody's right.
