Really tough debut for Hales; Steyn bowling fantastically, starts to get set then off they come for the rain and has to do it all over again. Likely will be forgotten rather quickly

what i saw was fairly promising, he looked fairly solid in defence and hit a few nice crisp drives

Delivery which could be left was poked at due to uncertainity about off stump or due to not knowing which way it will move. In some shots there was no surety at all. But it happens, Steyn is class bowler.

Taylor continues to make his prolonged period of absence from the Test side one of the worst decisions made by Flower, and that's saying something.

Taylor, having faced obstacles getting back into the side, was said to be about to be found out by pace. So encouraging that he's still there.

If this is a bowling day at Durban, this is a great effort by England. If it's not, they're doing really badly....
