Not sure what to make of that session.
India poor in the field and average with the ball but still take 3 wickets and england also score 100.
think india just about claim the session.

Not surprised to see Duckett go, for me he's not a test class batsman.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

looks like he gone backwards as well, looked so good against spin in his under 19 days and now looks awful and got no safe scoring shots what so ever.
very odd since he played nicely and straight in his under 19 days.
be nice to see if Star or Sky can get out his under 19 days videos so they can compare both of them now.

Our session imo as its always nice to see 3 specialist batsmen out for 102 runs in first session of day. England should be looking to make use of winning the toss and scoring 400+ at least if not 500+. First innings score have almost always been deciding factor in India as seen over the years in Ranji trophy. i.e. Win the toss , bat first, post a big total, get some lead due to deteriorating wickets and conditions impacting as days progress and then win the game bowling with at least 2 specialist spinners on day 4 and 5.

We won the toss, batted, and have lost 3 for 100. I'd give that session to India.

not sure england getting 500+, they have to bat really well to get 400 as well.
Spread have england getting 360 ish.

I meant England should be ideally looking for a big total batting first in India after winning toss and batting first. Not that they would score 500.

some stat this.
Since England were last in India in 2012, only one visiting batsman has made a hundred here. India have made 15 centuries.

If Root doesn't stick around and play one of his top innings this is likely to be a low score for England. The turn is nice and gentle but to England batsmen it's enough.

think getting a massive score is a big ask as well on a pitch doing a bit.
doubt any pitches in india will ever be flat that india can't take 10 wickets in the first innings.
you have to go all the way to 2012 for the last time an opposition team scored 500 in an innings in india and even then india hardly scored 500 runs either.

this will probably be the flattest deck you will get in india and they already got 3 wickets with 3 dropped catches.

Root is a class apart. So so good. Has looked at utter ease.

And that hundred came in the very next Test after the conclusion of the England series (Clarke at Chennai). No overseas hundreds in the last 12 Tests. Root will probably change that today though.

be interesting to see how many English batsman score hundreds in this series, they got the best pitch to change that record.
