Surely Trott is battling for the number 3 slot, I can't imagine the stupid idea for him to open will last long. He's a number 4 at Warks for crying out loud.

Dunno Dan. He's created a lot of chances. Catch through absent second slip, close lbw. He's been quite hostile. Is he bowling too long?

I watched England in the eighties and nineties where I could watch whole days go by without England bowlers going past the bat. When I see it now, it is a thing of wonder. The commentators keep saying the pitch is dead, but Stokes, Broad and Jordan have hit the batters, and a wicket feels never far away. Which is why I can't understand why Cook wouldn't keep in his catchers. And I'm not talking an umbrella field here. I'm talking about a second slip...

the selection of tredwell and trott over lyth and rashid imo stems from the selectors and moores not wanting to take a risk with their jobs being on the line

they were safer selections than throwing in two guys on their debut

i would have played tredwell either way but picked rashid over jordan

I reckon Ballance will start the summer, and with some fc cricket, he might do better. But if he was dropped, I guess Trott would slot in there.

a good captain is willing to buy a wicket, let the batsmen hit a few boundaries but have the catchers in at all times to make sure that when a mistake is made it is taken advantage of
