BBC saying Bairstow is expected to be in the starting xi on Sunday. Seems a bit odd to me, was expecting them to go in with 6 bowlers anyway but if they didn't thought Billings would get the shot anyway.

Maybe Root isn't going to play, regarding his late arrival. Agree about Billings though.

wonder if its instead of root

i would have agreed that billings had done enough to get a place ahead of bairstow

if that lineup being suggested is correct i assume stokes will miss out, either that or they are going to have him and moeen at #7 and #8

i dont like having buttler as low as #6, he is our best ODI player and needs to be batting higher to get longer at the crease and more opportunities of building a partnership

I suspect the BBC guess is wrong.

Buttler should be at four.

Over there, the grounds are tiny and the outfields are rapid. What we construed as being a big score - 270 or 280 - they'd just knock off in no time whatsoever.

Swann, from that article. Makes me wonder why they thought 270-280 was a good score then?

Bit odd though. They noted the ground was small, they noted the outfield was fast, they noted the opposition was getting these scores easily, and yet....

Who were all these brilliant fast scoring batsmen England were not picking 3-6 years ago. Most of the current crop were school kids or just new professionals. The fact is the England team of old reflected the way cricket was played by the counties and also the ECB and selectors attitude to one day cricket. As it happens the current change in attitude by the ECB is all about money rather than cricket as they see T20 raking in the cash around the world.

probably wont be surprised i am going to completely disagree with your last sentence

of course the change in attitude is about cricket, because if we continued to play the way we were, we would never win games of 50 over cricket and there isn't much point playing the game if you aren't going to try and beat the people you are playing against

In the past the CEO of the ECB was a cricket man now they have a marketing man who's right hand is also a marketing man and the England coach is principally a one day man. The emphasis has moved dramatically towards one day cricket as the prime target for the future. The reduction in 4 day games for the CC is just the tip of the iceberg.

Money people only think of making money as an example of their thinking here's a true story of my ex wife;'s uncle. He was an estate agent and when he was visiting us in Barnard Castle he saw the 1/4 acre paddock we had behind the house and said you could get 6 semis on that piece of land.

and what has any of that got to do with the fact the other major countries had changed the way they approached ODI cricket and if we didn't change too we would be left behind, in fact we had already been left behind

Cricinfo doesn't have Bairstow in.

1 Jason Roy, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Joe Root, 4 Jos Buttler (wk), 5 Eoin Morgan (capt), 6 Ben Stokes, 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 David Willey, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Liam Plunkett/Liam Dawson

Though they have Buttler at four. And for India:

1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Ajinkya Rahane/ KL Rahul, 3 Virat Kohli (capt.), 4 MS Dhoni (wk), 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Kedar Jadhav, 7 Hardik Pandya, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 R Ashwin/ Amit Mishra, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

morgan has promoted buttler ahead of him a couple of times when we have got off to good starts i think, more likely that morgan will bat at #4 tho if we do lose early wickets i would think

i thought i had read kumble had said rahane would definitely play
