Really is a shame how underwhelming Boult and Southee have been in this series. Those two on top form could really have narrowed the playing field a bit.

Hazelwood has already pleaded guilty to dissent for his poor display this afternoon (NZ time).

He'll probably just cop a fine, hopefully all of his match fee, with a suspended ban hanging over his head. A repeat should definitely see him banned for a test or two.

I've just seen this waking up in England. Yet again DRS helps to lower respect for umpires to a new level.

Players crowding and swearing at the umpire who was forced to retreat like it was a football match, Smith needs to be spoken to as well for his behaviour and Hazlewood needs at least a match ban for his part, if it were my choice it would be a whole series to try and send a message to players to wind their necks in.

Edit; I forgot who their coach was, which might explain things that need sorting out in the Aussie camp, a former player who, if it was in his day, would have probably knocked the umps head off or at least racially abused him in a similar situation.

cracks me up that it was smith complaining about the decision Anderson got in the odi series and complaining about Kohli sledging in the T20s.

Smith really does like complaining about things.

Just seen the incident, not sure why the Aussies were so up in arms. The ball hit the bat first before the foot. What didn't they understand about that?

They used not to show the review on the big screens in case they caused anger in the crowd. Maybe time to stop showing them in order not to provoke dissent on the field.

Yes, this felt like the perfect time for NZ to play Australia, but they have ben outclassed. Losing the tosses may not have helped, but there has been more than that, and the lack of bite from these two has been a problem. NZ couldn't afford to lose Taylor either, but Australia have had the worse injuries.

Article I read said he'll be fined. Fair enough for a first offence. The article I read says they normally get a reprimand first time, but the swearing means it will be more, and the ICC has declared a clampdown on unacceptable behaviour (even Stuart Broad got a fine in SA). It was the players running up to the umpire so he had to step back that I found a turn off. Jackson Bird after the game felt that no one stepped over the line. As ever, there's a certain amount of irony involved when the match ref is Chris Broad.

There are never any reasons for poor behaviour on a cricket field.

Just plenty of excuses.

I think the worst part is how they crowded him, the swearing is just the icing on a very badly baked cake.
