Dhawan averages 40 with the bat, I think he can bat at number 7 or number 8 if you pick him as a bowler.

why play 2 spinners when you know their can do a job, india needs to see if it is possible to play 4 seam options abroad.
especially when you consider this is the only time india got to experiment like this before 2017 champions trophy after this odi are mostly at india.

What you need is a wrist spinner.

Quibbling about whether it should have been 310 or 350 is missing the point a bit. 310 should still be a challenge and defensible for a decent bowling attack. Australia have cruised it both times. India's fielding hasn't been as sharp as Australia's (compare the number of dot balls and 2s run), but two spinners on these tracks is asking for trouble. They're being picked off at will.

After two losses India has to at least try something different.

Literally making a very good decision by the selectors look very baffling.

I have no fuckin idea why Dhoni is so adamant at playing 2 spinners, literally telling everyone R Dhawan isn't good enough to play without giving him a chance, literally not trying new things and strategy no idea why it *modded* matters if india get all out for 260 going for 350.

Dhoni still doesn't understand the logic off no one gives a *modded* if india loses games here, Selectors don't, fan don't just try new players and new ideas, no one *modded* cares if we win this series, just win the ICC Trophies in 2017 and 19.

Really one of jadeja/Ashwin should be dropped, everyone knows what their can do in ODI, Rishi Dhawan really needs a go to see if he has it in him to play in overseas conditions.
India can't hope that the bowling just clicks like the champions trophy in 2013 and world cup in 2015, with india batting depth looking weak in the one day format india don't really have the strength and depth to kill teams with the bat any more.

Sorry for the rant just had to let it out because of 2 pathetic captaincy performances, especially when you consider the team hasn't really done that bad here, just that India hasn't learnt anything in these 2 games.
B Sran been the only positive, india should have been 1-1.
Only pathetic captaincy and negative thought made india lose the first game.

Still baffled why india are so frightened to get all out for 260 in a *modded* game that mean nothing, go for *modded* 330-350 you don't lose anything anyway.

TBH you don't even have to drop 2 spinners if you just rotate B Sran/Ishant/BK/Umesh Yadav with Rishi dhawan give the guy a chance before you call him crap in public.

Really want Kohli taking over the reins in ODI, Dhoni has really lost the plot.

completely agree - Dhawan has staistically been one of the best seamers in domestic cricket for the last few years and also bats in the top order and averages 40. Really have to give him a chance at least. Also, Bhuvi has his speeds well up now - with his batting ability if we could work with him and get some swing back then he could be a huge plus.

Dhoni's comments about lack of seam bowling all-rounders are just not helpful when he refuses to give them a chance - having said that, no-one is expecting Dhawan or Bhuvi to be like Watson, Kallis, Russell, Faulkner, Stokes etc and there is an obvious issue in ind cricket that such players are not coming through - but we do have to try out Dhawan and keep Bhvi in the frame

Dhoni's comments the other night went very, very close to accusing the umpire's of deliberate bias - saying that India are on the receiving end of the worse of the 50/50 decisions as a payback for not going with the DRS.

A comment well short of the standard a national captain should be meeting.

Either way, there is much more for India to gain in the long term by being bold and picking Dhawan. Even if they lose the series in Australia, and he is exposed as not being up to the role, they would return to India with the knowledge they had at least started the auditions for all-rounders ahead of next year's Champions Trophy in England, where an extra seamer will be vital.

295 for India. It could have been more, but again they didn't move on as quickly as they might in the final 10, and Dharwan scoring 60 off 90 meant that the first part of the innings was pretty sluggish. He never looked convincing. That said, the ball isn't coming on as fast as it did in Brisbane, and it will be cooler in Melbourne under lights, so it may not be as easy as the previous two chases. The commentators on 9 were saying that 280 might be a decent score given the pace of the wicket. But I guess we'll see.

Hastings has been impressive these last two games. Boland on the other hand looks nowhere near ready for international cricket. The attack is pretty much Australia's B attack here, so India should be scoring more.

Interesting choice for Smith to send India in for a D/N game with a good batting deck and a sunny day, but I guess he's backing Australia to chase down anything India can post, and on the evidence of the last few games, why not?

Why are Australia going in with so much pace, and so little spin?

Very nice stumping of Bailey by Dhoni. Very quick hands.

he probably one of the best behind the stumps to spinners, hardly misses stumping chances and takes wickets where others would have fluffed them.
If he has a weakness will be his work against the pacers in places like England doesn't look that comfortable.

Ishant, Sran and Umesh were too loose upfront again, and then we had some poor captaincy from Dhoni again where Aus were just being gifted singles even though Rishi and Mann were bowling quite tightly. Smith had the field up blocking singles whereas we push the field back and concede 6 an over without Aus having to do anything :d'oh:

S Marsh gone now - Ind have a slight sniff here if they can get rid of Maxwell and then Faulkner - will have to keep it tight and field well though
