This has been a cracking innings from Cook, the sort of innings he played when he was at the top of his game. Not played any risky shots and waited for the bad balls. The way he's looked to play a little more forward to Lyon in defense bodes well for the UAE.

Australia have bowled well and England by and large have fought well baring Root and Stokes. Impressed with Buttler this far, horribly out of form but he's looked to battle away rather than trying to hit his way back into form.

Not too much to be angry about today from an England point of view:

Cook batted really well today before a tired prop forwards; Lyth got a decent delivery after a very good opening spell of bowling but he looks shot; Bell fought well before Marsh produced an extra bit of bounce; Root just looks a little tired, Sky keep talking about his back so maybe his hook shot today is a bit more excusable; Bairstow did well enough and shouldn't have been given out; Stokes played a daft shot; Buttler looked to dig in and by the end of the play he started to look a bit mor comfortable at the crease, especially with his footwork.

Time we stopped playing ashes tests at Lords and the Oval. Cardiff and Edgbaston should be regular venues.
