in their defence it was being discussed yesterday before he batted today so not all hindsight

The test is if he'd flopped today would they have gone on complaining that he batted to low in the order. Answer almost certainly not.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

if he had flopped today they could have just written it off due to the injury

the fact he batted well today is what is making the questions that were asked about why he wasn't batting yesterday more relevant, and those questions were being asked yesterday

In the 10th over and Cook has used 5 different bowlers, is it a cunning plan or simply he has no plan at all except to share out the failure between all bowlers. Batty will get the last over when India need one to win.

Almost perfect innings especially for someone with a injured finger. I think when he arrived he must have wondered how his finger would cope but as his innings progressed without pain he upped his game.

He made 17 runs from his first 120 balls. That places all the emphasis on the partner at the other end to score. While it might look personally good for Hameed, I have no doubt that such a tactic over such a long space of time does no favours for the team as a whole. England had a nothing lead, they needed to to score runs, not just sit and do nothing. I said this after the 2nd test, but Hameed lets so many bad balls go unpunished. You want to put pressure on a fielding team, you have to get rid of those bad ones. Hameed just sits on them. He dead bats long hops!!!

Probably worth noting he was dropped on 3 as well.

lol look at this tweet.
Don't read to much into the lost test series between #INDvENG simply because it is not a level playing field in India & never is! #unfair

Yeah the pitches have really been unfair mate.

i'm in two minds

its nice to see someone make the bowlers work to get him out, but at the same time he has to be punishing poor deliveries more often to put some pressure back on the bowlers.

I'm just thankful we drew the first test, and avoided a whitewash.

This has got 4-0 written all over it, kind of a mini whitewash in itself.

I think he plainly doesn't like Stokes, but with Hameed it is more about the hype.

interesting to see how we react to this and what changes are made

at the very least we need to forget a 3rd spinner and then decide whether we play 5 bowlers or 6

i want the extra batsman but i expect we will see a seamer replace batty

The strangest thing is, he can play strokes. When he brings them out the locker, they come with textbook application. I just worry that his lack of intent with the bat at times is going to encourage bowlers to really bowl aggressively to him in the future, or that it places a real onus on others in a shaky batting line up to go find the runs.

Less about hype, more about the fact that the face fits with some players, while others are treated like dirt.
