If the umpires were stupid enough to tell Morgan that they thought the third umpire got it wrong then they probably didn't even know what Australia was appealing for.

Just found this article;

The on field umpires during the Stokes incident had original thought Australia were accusing Stokes of ball tampering.

Well, three ODI's ago the umpires didnt know the dead ball rule when Australia run out James Anderson, so its not suprising that they would mess up again.

Might seem a strange train of thought, but one thing I do notice watching this again is that, once the bowler and fielding team appeal for the lbw, is it fair to put off the batsman while the ball is still live? Would a dead ball result from an appeal in that instance?

I didn't realise umpires could give a soft signal to the third umpire.

It's ok for the third ump to overturn a soft signal if he's sure. The umpire gave a decision that is very arguably correct. So that's fine, he had to make a decision. But as has been said, he may have been remiss in watching it solely, or at all, in slo-mo. It happened today with a catch dropped in the action of throwing it in the air in the Yorks/Gloucs semi. The umpire watched only in slo-mo, to see if the catcher had control of the ball before spilling it, as if that is the true reality. It may enhance reality in a stumping, but it blurs reality in some decisions. I thought the third ump today might have reflected on yesterday, and at least asked to see the action once, or totally, at real speed. But he just watched slo-mo.

Would have made sense for him to play in our game against Surrey to get some time in the middle at a lower level. Sadly the ECBs responce to any loss of form seems to be taking the player out of the game and making them hit balls in the nets.
