That's astonishing AC, in one of the worst years of England test results. As I said earlier most of the batsmen in this series will return home with decent averages and yet few of them have truly performed well when England really needed them to do so.

The First full year Bayliss has and yet few of them have truly performed well when England really needed them to do so.s been in charge has reflected his style of play, good batting averages, dreadful team results.

Just said the very same thing to a work colleague, and then never plays for England again!

Rashid has some previous for nearly saving a game. Maybe he'll do the same today.

More innings for the latter day Yorks bats compared with MPV. These are 2 &3 now and Root last year is 4.

Then... Dennis Amiss, 1974.

alfie wrote:Rich I do agree about Broad - and the pace men generally. Think a bit more aggressive attack from them (not just in this match) might have been a good idea. Though I'm not the one sweating it out on flat decks in the heat and dust of India :)

As for Dawson : I am not suggesting he has been revealed as the new Swann. Just that he did his job rather better than the others that have been tried this series. As to having him bowl at the start of a session I can't see any evidence from this series that anyone else would have enjoyed success in his place : they've tried putting the 'attacking" bowlers on early and the result has been India racing away - this time they tried something different ...and of course it didn't work either. Though if they hadn't wasted two reviews the day before...

Not sure Dawson will play many more Tests ; but if he is prepared to work hard with the spin coach I don't think it is out of the question that he develop into one who might be seriously considered. He isn't that old , for a spinner.

TBH England don't have a spin coach/fielding coach.
really england need one spin coach considering Ali/Rashid bowled way better with one and if anything the batsman enjoy working with him as well.

He has been tested as all spinners are who England take under their wing and the claim is that he failed the 15 degree test. The newspaper put this forward as the reason why Dawson was chosen ahead of him to join the test squad. No idea which bewspaper they were talking about. Sounds strange to me as I can't imagine he would have gone to the UAE with the Lions.

At least they starting to be honest now.
if leach chucks then Dawson isn't really a bad option considering he might actually be the best left arm spinner in the county system.

Seems like Ashwin bowling really well but only taken 1 for 200 odd.
think the most impressive part of the indian team been the seam bowlers been very good in this series and out bowled NZ/England seam bowlers so far in the season which is a big surprise.

27 overs to go. 12 overs/45 minutes until the possible handshake (doubtful Kohli will let England off, but if there are no more wickets from now until then. Fat chance).
