india not got a great ODI team at the moment and they likely to rest a lot of their key players.

Rest them 5 months before the Champions Trophy?

they got 5 test + ipl still to go.
chances are Ashwin, Jadeja, kohli etc need the rest.
don't think india really care about the Champions trophy right now.

dont often agree with boycott but think he made a good point today

we need to decide to commit to cook for another year or replace him before the home summer

would be a poor situation if cook is captain for the home summer and then we replace him and have a brand new captain going to australia

obviously if he does stay on and we have a really bad home sumer we might have no choice in the matter

just seen a really depressing stat

in 140 years of test cricket before this series there have only been two instances of a team scoring 400 or more batting first and going on to lose by an innings

we managed it twice in a fortnight

I think taking over the captaincy for a tour is not so bad an idea. You have your squad of 16 around you for a couple of months and you can stamp your style on them, at home they are spread around and home life plays a role. Anyway if it's Root he's ready, Cook says so. Ideally, Cook should go as well and leave the field completely clear for Root.

i can see that being a good thing, i would just prefer to see root get his feet wet as captain without dealing with all the additional crap that comes with an ashes series

Seeing the India team photographed behind a giant sign saying Champions, it made me wonder if that warrants a gold star on their shirts.

How many stars did it have.
if 3 then it is the 3 ICC world cup wins.
if anything the star could be based on them being World number 1 in test.

Next test in July 2017?

Probably a good thing.

Haven't really been following the aftermath, I guess Cook will resign?

Never Cook look so shell-shocked...i think he will resign, and focus purely on his batting, probably not the worse move in the world, no gurantee that Root will be a great captain though..

I fear he's got the ECB stamp of approval which may mean that things look rather similar. Though I would expect his on field captaincy to be more imaginative, which won't be difficult.
