Yesnigel Kent was there and offered to help at which point Stokes leapt his feet, screamed "I'm fine Nige" and sprinted straight back out on the field.

Wood didn't look ready for international cricket yet. I thought Plunkett bowled really well, Woakes was also pretty good and the spinners were generally fine. Rashid did bowl too many poor balls but also some some threatening deliveries, Ali bowled with good control. Didn't see much of the batting.

I think Stokes might be rested, Morgan said the match situation meant he decided not to bring him back in to bowl. Doesn't sound as if they are worried about him but there's no point at all in taking any risks.

Good win, but as pointed out above, no one will give a stuff about this series in two weeks' time, let along the distant future. It's all about getting the team to the best possible position for the CT.

I think they'll rotate a bit. Wood looks rusty and needs some more match practice, but Willey, Bairstow, Billings should all probably be given a game. And they won't want to risk Stokes.

Morgan's back on form, which bodes well. But Buttler's still struggling, which doesn't. Hard to imagine England winning the CT without Buttler firing, but in Bairstow and Billings we have two more than capable backups.

Just wondering how many of the current line-up would be in an all-time England ODI XI. Probably a fair few, since England's ODI exploits haven't been great for the last 25 years. Morgan, Root and Buttler are shoo-ins, and Hales is also a very strong choice. You'd have to make room for KP, Tresco's probably the other opener, and Flintoff is ahead of Stokes or Botham. Bowling wise not so sure - Goughy, obviously, Swann as spinner, Jimmy in his prime, but no-one else screams out for selection.

Trouble is, the game has moved on so much it's really hard to compare across eras. The 1992 team was, by the standards of the time, pretty good, but look at it now: - Gooch, Fairbrother, Stewart, Botham, Lamb, Hick, Lewis, Reeve, Pringle, DeFraitas, Illingworth. Of those, how many would you consider would cut it in the modern game? Apart from Beefy, who would you consider - Gooch perhaps?

It's tempting to assume the modern day players are better. The only certainty I have is that they are better ground fielders. Not better catchers, but better spectacular catchers. So much is in the favour of he batters now that it's hard to say the modern players are definitely better, any more than we can say all the old bowlers were better because their stats were so good. I'd be inclined to have Gooch just as a batter (not Botham). But then I'd have to have him lumbering around the field, and accommodate Tres too. Hats off to GG, he faced Garner, Croft and Holding. Probably this is the best batting line up as a group on a flat pitch though.

First trip to Headingley today, really enjoyable too

The sense in he crowd was that we were struggling throughout our innings until Moeen got going, also whilst Amla and Faf were together and only really felt home and hosed when ABDV fell taking their final chance.
