Got to feel sorry for the bowler. Two lbws in an over that would have been out on DRS- would Jason have triggered them?) and a drop.

Looking at England opening partnerships since 1900 (nineteenth century was a different game), amazing how many of the worst pairs have been in the past five years (minimum ten innings). Cook has featured in 5/10 worst opening partnerships, with Cook/Hales not far behind. Cook/Stoneman the worst with 18.8 rpw. Cook/Trott miss out because thy only started together eight times.

Burns and Jennings average 33 off eight partnerships. About the same as Cook and Hales and Cook and Jennings.

Compo and Cook were England's sixth best opening partnership! Average 57.9, compared with Cook and Strauss on 41.

Safe to say he has 1 innings remaining, well and truly his last chance.

This line has been said by at least one poster in each of his last 10 tests...... I expect he will be back for the summer, first name on the team sheet.

One edge short, one drop, two lbws that were out but not reviewed...... in 8 runs....

Rubbish.

The Jennings luck ran out with the drink break. I imagine the selectors' patience has too...having somehow survived that excellent spell from Roach to get out to the change bowler like that was very disappointing.

Hope Denly has learned from his first game or this could be another grisly session. Ball moving around quite nicely for all the West Indies bowlers so I'm not suggesting it's easy , mind.

You couldn't say Burns looks exactly comfortable but at least he's showing a bit of grit. Given he had to force his way into beside by weight of county runs he's at least suggesting he has the temperament for Test cricket ...whether he has the class remains to be seen...

Burns is there for the ashes 100% however a new opener will defo be required...early season CC runs will be vital this season

Didn't score quick enough for Bayliss...

He has done good things with the white ball squad but the delusion that you can play Test Cricket consistently at full speed has cost them. OK , if you had a team full of genius batsmen...but he hasn't.
I don't think Compton was anything special ; but trying to improve on him has so far turned up a succession of players for whom the step up from the county game has proved too much.
Law of averages says someone ought to succeed eventually , surely ?
