Trott failed twice when up against more than a pop gun attack. Unfortunately Lyth didn't take his chance either. Cook looked more convincing in defence especially with his footwork and judgement about where his off stump was. Wasn't able to score freely against an attack containing decent bowlers though.

Cook really is vital to England, when he scores runs we tend to do well. Hopefully the knowledge that he's not going to saved by simply being England's golden boy might get the best out of him. I have a feeling that he won't be captain this time next year.

West Indies squad: Ramdin (c), K Brathwaite, Benn, Bishoo, Blackwood, C Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Shiv, Holder, Hope, Roach, Samuels, Smith, Taylor.

If we can't beat that team then none of our players should ever be selected again.

Dobell was very complimentary of Cook, though the scorecard suggests he wasn't doing much in the second game other than occupy the crease.

Some of Cook's comments recently have annoyed me - seems to think he's entitled to the captaincy, which makes me question his mindset. If he wants to keep the captaincy then obviously he needs to start scoring runs again, as there isn't much else to prop up his captaincy, and it's for the best that he stays out of the media spotlight. It's probably been an advantage that much of the press this week has been about Trott's return rather than Cook's runs.

He was a damn good opener until McCullum spooked him with the Bradman comparison. Let's hope he can return to that sort of form, and soon.

hit the nail on the head there for me matt , he really has came across as having this sense of entitlement in his comments on his position as captain

doesn't seem to realise that he has to justify it through his performances

players out from the tour of South Africa....

Sheldon Cottrell
Leon Johnson
Shannon Gabriel

a recall for dev bishoo.

Carlos Braithwaite is a pace bowling all-rounder and shai hope is a young batsman who scored lots of runs this domestic season.

Jermaine Blackwood is lucky to keep his place and we will soon see if Darren bravo and kemar roach have recovered from injuries.

I can see England comming a cropper against Benn and Bishoo. Can Taylor humiliate England yet again? It's a strange tour where England should walk the series but England are far from a functioning team at present. For the West Indies it could be a victory that might breath some fire back into their domestic viewership.

West Indies won't get enough runs though.
