with cook gone and a stupid series in sri lanka over, which was brilliant scheduling as prep for a world cup in NZ/Aus we can finally start to get an idea just how england are going to fare in the WC

the anchor at the top of the order has been cut loose, time to start playing with freedom, hopefully hales is given a run with moeen, have a feeling he is much more suited to aussie pitches than moeen

moeen
hales
taylor
root
bopara
morgan (c)
buttler
woakes
tredwell
broad?
jimmy

5/6/7 are completely flexible and who comes in depends on the situation, if we are 3 down early send in ravi, if we are going well send in morgan and buttler shunting ravi down to 7

the big bonus with this series is that with cook gone we can all stop supporting the other team

With the final XI, I don't think it's a given that Hales will play over Bell. Especially if he continues to score no runs for his BBL team. I would guess that Woakes had first shot at the final seamer place, but it won't be nailed on.

Hopefully :

Dhawan
Rahane
Kohli
Rohit/Raina/Dhoni
Dhoni/Rohit/Raina
Raina/Dhoni/Rohit
Jadeja (will miss the first few matches, so probably Ashwin)
Axar
Bhuvi
Umesh
Shami

Rayudu
Vijay
Ishant
Ashwin

I'd have Vijay in my squad as the back up opener based on his Test form as a solid fall-back option.in case conditions turn out to be bowler-friendly and FTBs like Dhawan and Rohit start getting exposed. The rest of the squad picks itself. Ishant in ODIs isn't ideal but he is the least worst option we've got and does have a good ODI record in Australia.

Part of plan by England to lose all ODI series leading to the world cup and make all other teams complacent. Then show the real ODI skillsets when it matters and win the WC.

Even when interviewing players the focus seems to be all about Cook and that can't be good for English cricket

Peter Moores press conference coming up on Sky.

I got my hopes up then realised it would be about this upcoming tri-series.

Moores: We moved our game in Sri Lanka. There was a change of mindset and Eoin will continue to drive that.

Do people really talk like that?

Moores now saying that getting rid of Cook was the best thing for the side. I don't recall him saying that. Just the opposite.

So the defeat in SL was a good thing?
