Going to be like an away game for Australia even though it's at the SCG!

I'll believe it when it happens. Afridi has more comebacks than Frank Sinatra.

Well, that got pretty dramatic in the middle of the Aus innings. As the commentators repeated ad nauseum, it was a heck of a spell by Wahad. Thoroughly deserved Watson's wicket, set him up so well, and he also handled the disappointment of the drop very well.

On top of that, the dropped catch (if taken) would have put Aus under extreme pressure.

Aside from Wahad's first spell (did I mention how very bloody good that was?), it was pretty much a standard victory for Aus - it is just that Wahad's spell dominated the innings so. The spinners posed little trouble, I am sure that the Indian spinners will be a little more problematic, and the other pacemen were nothing out of the ordinary.

Watson was incredibly dominated by Wahad - who bowled one of the greatest spells in ODI history, by the way - and should have been out at least three times during Wahad's first spell.

Oh, and I also should mention how impressed I was with Wahad's opening spell of bowling. :salute

Captain should, Coach should, the rest of the team should.

Anyone who has him in the FL team should lose 20 (if not more) points for that review decision as well. It was worse than any of Watson's (which is really saying something), imo.

no real suprise about the result, but what a spell of bowling from Wahab. One of the best spells of fast bowling for a long time

Credit to Wahab Riaz for a thrilling spell, but a big win for Australia and their own bowlers dominated the game. The Aussie death bowling was outstanding, though admittedly mostly to the lower order. They had too much fire for the Pakistanis.

I thought Maxwell's innings was poorly judged, and very lucky early on. At the point he came in, a Pakistan win was just about possible, and run rate wasn't even remotely an issue. I'm not against playing big shots, just such extremely high risk shots. Still, he got away with it and he and Watson dominated in the end. Smith played really well and countered Wahab with skill and a cool head.

A Pakistan win would have given the competition the left turn it really needs. But no doubt the better team won, and the WC will get a more intriguing semi final because of that. Though an Asian derby would have perhaps been more anticipated.
I always say that everybody's right.

I'm sure India fans would have much prefered Pakistan. I know Adi would, but the law of averages says that eventually Pakistan will win one, so it might be better to face Aus.

yup. It was a fascinating passage of play. Watson should come out of this full of confidence... Got through a difficult phase, but fought hard stuck in there, and saw his side home, could re-kick start his career, if he takes the confidence from this and takes it forward

Not so sure it will be much of a confidence boost for him, he played the short ball poorly and should have been out twice to easy dropped catches

Yes, he lost the battle really. Just the chance wasn't taken. Agree with Dan that it was an exciting contest though.

Indeed, fascinating passage of play, you felt if the first chance they had stuck then Pakistan would have been right back in it

Only the one dropped catch - although he was squared up, and blindly fending away short-pitched deliveries many times that he was lucky they didn't go to a fielder - the other one was off Maxwell. And that one was well short of being called an easy chance.

He looked totally out of his depth against Wahad, where he normally handles short bowling fairly well - as he did after Wahad's first spell, with both Wahad and the other pace bowlers. There is no doubt that he is going to cop a barrage of risers in the future. While his overall confidence probably had a lift, he will most likely be a bit doubtful when a left handed quick comes on and bowls short at him.
