With Aus having been burnt by a few de Plessis/de Villiers partnerships in the past, it is easy for me to see that this is the vital one for NZ to break.

Either batsmen, both.

Anderson strikes again as a partnership breaker.

This is surely the critical partnership for NZ. Get ABdV early and NZ have to be favourites. If he gets himself in, there could be a big score looming.

whats the minimum we think SA need ?

270-280 enough for a knock-out game with the pressure of chasing or need closer to 300 ?

Apparently the rule of thumb these days is double the score at 32 overs if you have 6 or more wickets in hand. Some teams have managed to go even better than that. With 32 overs down, still 7 overs needed from the part timers, we're looking at 300 easily here unless these two go soon. Could get very messy.

I'd reckon 280 for a decent chance, 320 should be pretty certainly safe.

I've even been saying doubling their 35 over score is happening a lot with wickets in hand

its a fine line tho here for SA , miller can be a bit hit and miss and duminy is more of an accumulator than a biffer

I think we're all in agreement that this is the key partnership.

New Zealand have never really been under pressure in the field. Highest score they have conceded is 288, even that involved a fairly even run rate and consistent fall of wickets. Every other time bowling first they've kept the opposition to less than 200, and the only two times they've batted first the opposition has never looked like getting anywhere near. Interesting to see how they respond. So far the response has been attack rather than contain...

And South Africa's response has been to attack back. 10 an over since the 30 over mark, and here comes the powerplay :hide

SA seem to be gambling hugely on having a great back end to the game. It could go wrong quite quickly.

Nervous moments for NZ fans though.

It won't go wrong if NZ don't take their chances though.

This is getting messy for NZ. A score of 350 plus is on the cards here.

You don't drop de Villiers and win. :d'oh:

50 up in no time at all.

350 definitely looking likely.

well they have been saying that SA have been scoring at 12 rpo in the last 15 , albeit mostly against weaker teams, so if they do anything near that here 350 is on

I think they would take 320 if they were offered it now tho

rain might be good for NZ if the game is shortened as SA probably wont get the sort of score via D/L that they were looking like getting if they had kept going the way they were the last 5 or 6 overs
