No wonder Danny Morrison wasn't considered. He would have exploded. He'd have been so excited he would have forgotten the names of the sponsors.

What a game, I could hardly watch during the final two overs and I'm neutral.

I think there are a few areas where South Africa lost it. Obviously three missed run outs, a missed stumping and a dropped chance. Considering they were so electric in the field, to miss so many opportunities smacks of nerves, if not the c word. In general I think De Kock's keeping wasn't up to scratch.

I also think that South Africa could never have won the WC with two of their best players, Amla and Steyn, both massively underperforming. Amla hit that hundred against West Indies but has otherwise been anonymous (South Africa's opening partnership has averaged just 15), and Steyn took 11 wickets in 8 games at 39. Huge disappointments from both. Had they been performing as well as they could, they'd have won. Finally, I think South Africa were wrong to drop Abbott for Philander, who never looked remotely threatening.

The rain probably didn't help South Africa either, but we'll never know.

In the context of the whole tournament rather than just last night, I think the Kiwis deserve to be in the final. They've been more consistent, better balanced and every member of the team has made important contributions at crucial times. South Africa never quite found the right balance (Duminy contributed more with the ball and the bat), had key players out of form and lost their nerve on more than one occasion. In the end the semi came down to nerve more than anything else, and NZ had more of it.

Well played all, though. Top entertainment.

Yep - Whoever was closest to that ball should have put a name on it, standard village cricket stuff.

The score NZ chased was mainly limited because SA scored so slowly in the first 28 overs. That was their tactic; they may well have made it up in the eight missing overs, but their strategy fell foul of the rain interruption, which it obviously would. Blaming D/L a kind of denial. And no one knows if NZ would have chased this notional score (SA could have collapsed and been all out) they did a good job of chasing the stiff target they were actually set. SA staying calm and taking their chances would have probably brought about a different result.

According to the message on the scoreboard yesterday, fruit and veg are not to be taken out of Eden Park.

Why not?

An outbreak of the Queensland Fruit Fly, which made it's way to New Zealand last month. If not contained it can destroy the farming industry.

Ah right. Who would have thought flies could do so much damage?

New Zealand is very protective when it comes to foreign objects and disease. Can't bring an apple past customs without being hit with a $400 fine.

Government officials were outside the ground for the NZ-Aus ODI asking folk if they have fruit or veg, I imagine the same applied yesterday.
