yeah well past his sell by date and surely even england can exploit his weakness which other teams have been doing for years.

he averages 15 since the last ashes and did nothing barring the ashes.

Terrible player that played far too many test matches because of luck and scheduling lol.
Remember reading Aussie forums in 2011 when india toured Australia and fans were mostly wanting him dropped since he would do nothing with bat and drop too many catches although he had this weird cycle of everyone wanting him dropped when ashes were not played and then after a brilliant ashes series he would be liked again for 6-7 months and then the drop messages start again.
he been pretty lucky that ashes performance came at the right time he was about to get dropped or he would get injured or have personal problems at the right time plus Wade or Paine were either not keeping well or injured.

Haddin is a weird cricketer though considering he kind of mentally weak in his test career playing so many dopey shots, was a ok keeper but would miss 1 or 2 chances a game.
Averaging 20-24 against most team home and away is really poor but then he looked so good and mentally strong against England which is more pressure situation than most Test matches.

Haddin and Watson both played far too many test then they deserved.

Obviously have some regard for Haddin because of the miracles he's wrought against England. Understand that isn't the whole story. Won't be missed as a sportsman.

But how long can he be in the team just because of the 2013-14 ashes.
Before and after that ashes he been bad.
Was terrible before the ashes and after.

Haddin probably lucky no keeper really pushing for his spot, Wade was ok/poor keeper but a better batsman, Paine was always injured and peter nevill hasn't played a test yet.

quite hard rating a player that only done well in one or two series in 66 test.

He's announced his retirement from the end of the series.

Well played to England, thoroughly deserved win.

Each innings score was less so a pretty good toss to win in the end.

Quite a few problems for Australia to sort out. Watson will be gone, and Haddin might well be on his way as well. Looks like Starc wont be playing the next test so all of a sudden the great Australian depth in bowling is exposed. 2 weeks ago no Starc or Harris would not have been thought off. The next test could well be Hazelwood, Mitch and Siddle.

As for England, well time for Root to go up the order, and still problems for me in the top 4.

England had a great test but were in trouble on the first day. What would have happened if Haddin held that catch against root. On such small things test matches can rest.

Yes.... terrific catch by the skip. England's catching seems to have improved since NZ.

excellent result for England and thoroughly well deserved... they outplayed Australia completely from lunch on day 1 to the end of the game.

Not sure it was a great toss to win. Australia didn't take a promising advantage on day one, an England bowled better on day two. The game was won by then.

Has haddin announced his retirement.
If he retired he probably had the weirdest career ever so many up and downs but mostly downs.
He was so close to not even make the ashes squad in 2013 only 4-0 whitewash to India and australia making changes gave him the chance to bully England again.
No ideas how he failed against India home and away he looked so *modded* against pace considering he from australia, Steyn and even Indian bowlers destroyed him on that front.

I think he's been doing ok in ODIs. Not checked.

Haddin stepped back in when they had problems with other keepers. I think he stayed on because he wanted another crack at winning/retaining the Ashes over here. And his heroics in 2013 meant that CA were willing to accommodate.

Think it was a handy toss to win. Nothing worse than your strongest weapons coming into bowl on the first day and 2 of the first balls in first over bouncing twice before they get to the keeper. Got to wonder what your plan b is then.

England thoroughly deserved the win, and once Haddin dropped Root they took control with some nice counter attacking cricket.

Judging by the scores the pitch got harder to bat on, more wickets falling every day, each innings producing a lower score. Seems like a good toss to win. The fact England made the most of that and bowled well to a plan.

Must admit though i am making this analysis from just looking at the score board. I have seen no highlight other than on the first day. So i could be speaking utter rubbish.

Australia shouldn't get too drawn into what happened last time around, they picked Johnson on the back of that and he's picked up two wickets in the match and most of the time looked pretty damned ordinary. I don't accept that the pitch destroyed him, it didn't do Starc, Hazelwood, Broad or Wood much harm.

I think Australia had better overheads for their bowling innings on day one, than England had on day two. I'm inclined to the view that Root's quality in the first innings was a bigger factor than the conditions changing over the first two days.

England still have problems. But in the aftermath of a win they seem less significant. I still take Australia to win the series.

Winning the toss was a great start, but the only time Aus were on top - or anywhere near it- was briefly in the first session.

Once Root was given a life, England didn't look back.

A fine performance by England, thoroughly outplayed Aus and played to their strengths and as a team.

Pretty much everyone in the side contributed well in one innings or the other. The only real failure was the skip, and he pulled off, what I'm sure will end up being, the catch of the summer to compensate.

I'm forgetting about the gloves, of course. Not sure he had a particularly good game (but I have only seen day 3 and 4 highlights). He was pretty lucky that Lyth was alert at first slip a couple of times today.... one of which led to a wicket
