Youd be correct..... we all know that the next Jimmy Anderson is Chris Liddle, and that Finn and Wood should be dropped to accommodate him

I was listening to Radio 5 last night and they had Stokes down as 3rd seamer in the UAE in order to get the second spinner in.

It makes a bit of sense for UAE ; but maybe less for the coming match. But it also raises the question of what is Lyth's future ?
If he fails again , is that it for him ? Or even if he makes a modest score : does the Moeen for UAE opener still fly ? The fact that Lyth has been retained suggests to me they still hold hopes for him ; and I don't see Moeen as a sound choice to go in first in SA - or in fact anywhere other than subcontinent / Dubai .
That opening spot really does seem the number one problem for the immediate future. I'm less bothered about the spinner. England did all right under Vaughan with Giles ; and SA made top spot without a serious spin option. Reckon the Moeen/ Rashid/ Mr X question will sort itself out eventually ; and until it does we will just have to make do.
Though I see an eighteen year old leggie is making waves for Hampshire...
