They'll bat on. Kohli is seventeen from his ton, and they should be confident they have the number of the SA batters.

Surely they'll bat on for a while and get close to 470 before declaring.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Only just saw the highlights from yesterday.

I have defended Amla further up on this thread but he really has been abject on this tour. Could be in real trouble if he plays as badly against England.

##think it will be more about time - if it was me I'd want a short spell of 30 or 40 mins to bowl at SA before lunch. That would probably end up being about 470 anyway

I doubt Amla will be in trouble...every world-class batsman goes through a rough patch. You don't drop a batsman who averages over 50 in Test cricket on the basis of one or two bad series. You only drop a batsman like that if the rest of the batsmen in the side are doing better than him.

On the contrary, only two batsmen have averaged over 20 in this series so far - AB and Bavuma. Who are the batsmen who've averaged under 20 this series, and what are their Test averages:

Amla - 51
FAF - 45
Elgar - 35
van Zyl - 35
Duminy - 35

I would suggest that Elgar, van Zyl and Duminy are the ones walking the tightrope now....

Tea 40-1, and Amla is six not out from 113 balls!

Dropping Amla doesn't make one bit of sense.

I'm not watching this but would I would like to be. Old fashioned blocking against a couple of spinners.
