Taylor was only seventeen runs behind the NZ record for runs in a Test, by Stephen Fleming against SL.

This was the seventh highest run total in a Test, three of those ahead of it were timeless Tests (a wonderful phrase). If the overs had been completed, this game would certainly have had the most runs in a five day Test.

The record runs for a five day Test is currently a 1969 game between Australia and West Indies, in which West Indies needed a wicket to win the match, and Australia 21 runs.

WI were bowled out in 65 overs on the first day. What a game!

Well done the Kiwis on the improvement from the Gabba. A case for better prep going into a series?

With out a doubt.

This match has played Taylor back into form, so NZ should be pretty confident going into the last test.

2 new players coming into the Australian team, and the unknown of the day night test. If things pan out for NZ then they could well draw this series.

Said this on my Facebook account. Just posting it here too. Matthew Page has prepared one of the flattest decks at the WACA. Barring that odd crack, it has nothing to offer for the pacers. Even the track on which Brad Hodge cracked a double ton against SA in 2005-06 did a bit on Day 1.

On a lighter note, if David Crane comes back as the curator, he is welcome. The one who prepared that track at the WACA against WI in 1996-97 (Blewett getting cleaned up by Ambrose) and as a result, was fired. Or for the matter, Scott Hamilton, who was responsible for that pitch that helped Ambrose take 7 for 1 in a jaw-dropping spell. Ah, Hamilton too lost his job in 1993 and Crane took over from him.

I'd put New Zealand as tentative favourites for the next test...although so hard to tell in this wild series but they are getting to know and exploit the conditions

Lot of people slating Smith's conservative captaincy but I see his thinking.

New Zealand's bowling really is exposed by Boult not being fully fit. I think it has revealed some passengers in the bowling attack - the most obvious being Craig.
