Who was the last England player to debut with so little optimism and goodwill? Pattinson?

You probably have to go back to the nineties for the truly depressing debut. But it's been a while since anyone has been written off so emphatically before debut.

Rashid came into the side on unstoppable wave of no confidence from his coaches and captain. Maybe it's the way forward.

Reports now suggesting Finn and Steyn will be fit for the first Test.

Sounds like Finn, Woakes and Jordan for the 2nd warm up game. Both Broad and Anderson under cooked. 11 overs. Looks the same for Steyn, also 7 weeks since the last match. Expect Finn to get most of the wickets as he has been playing white ball cricket last week and will get 20+ overs in the warm up. :lmao

My hunch was they'd go with the Test team. Anderson will surely play.

cricinfo said England have asked for the game to be non first class though there is doubt SA will agree. If it does remain first class we may see the test probables in action or a team without Stokes in order for both Woakes and Footitt to play.

If SA are going to give their A team as opponents, it seems reasonable they should get a proper game.

Interesting interview with Compton from the Guardian on the eve of the last warm up game http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/d ... uth-africa

Surprising that Anderson isn't playing. Wonder if he's carrying an injury.

So it appears that Woakes is once again destined to wear an orange/yellow vest whilst sitting in the sun. No doubt he'll, as usual, return to Warwickshire injured from his net duties.

The Telegraph suggests that with this game and then the first two test being played with only one days rest it's likely that the quick bowlers will be almost certainly rotated. I presume that assumes the Durban test lasts 4-5 days

England have three early wickets having won the toss. Finn's playing, and you'd have to expect him to return in Durban.
