Borthwick isn't really a spinner any more. He's a top order batsman who can bowl decent enough leg spin at county level, I can't see him troubling many international players.

Averages about twenty in Tests!

Or Test, singular.

Very easy win in the end, though 140 isn't a tough score in the modern age. Fantastic innings from Buttler which showed both a willingness to bat according to the situation and the power to take control of it. Have to wonder whether England might get a little wake up call after that and stop dumping him down the order.

Good to see Mogs get some runs as well.

Different kettle of fish when the batsmen don't need to go after you.

of course but Rashid would need to play at some point would be quite dopey to play him in the winter without much overs in the belt for england in test cricket, Especially if he loses his confidence in his bowling.
At the moment Rashid getting very good control, drift and turn and should be dangerous in test cricket if he gets the chance.

For me the key is the control rashid got at the moment, Leg Spinners are always more dangerous when they are landing the ball in the right place most of the time.

Also is not like Ali winning games with the ball, so they not exactly taking a risk in that part of the game.

Waiting couple of months for Rashid playing test would be stupid especially if in that time Rashid loses his control and confidence.

If Hales and Root come back, might be difficult toget Buttler in as an opener. But he should have been at four for a long time.

They did once - Cardiff 2009. Bowling-wise, it didn't work and Australia declared with a bucketload of runs. Of course, Monty turned out to be an inspired pick!

On a flat pitch that didn't help them at all. I've always felt the evidence of that game has been overstated, sometimes to justify Flower's lack of adaptabiliy.

I remember reading on the old 606 forums from Glamorgan fans that it was based on a televised T20 game where it spun ragged but was on a different wicket. They didn't understand the 2 spinner strategy at all.

yeah I know but suspect England will try and make him bowl more so they have an extra bowling option from the batsman could be useful in the future.

And since then he's averaged 58, 36 and 47 a season for Durham.

Agreed. Has to be Buttler at 4 then Morgan at 5.

Fair enough. I wasn't really using it as a case that he could be a front line spinner. Just a quip!

It seems an odd suggestion that he'd be more likely to lose his control and confidence playing against first division cricketers for Yorkshire than against Test cricketers for England.

Complete mauling then. Not that we needed Strauss' system to tell us that.
