Wet cross country cycling would be good because it would look like they have incredible flexibility to just broadcast a nearby event.

Seems like a bowler's wicket for a change. At least it will force a result despite the rain.

In Nevill(e)'s defence though, he is there as a 'keeper and he is an old-fashioned one. A good 'keeper who may not score a great deal of runs but will stick around for a fair while and work for partnerships with the last batsman/bowlers.

(especially as it is not cricket season down here) He is not really being challenged for his place. I am happy to see him there, even if a few more runs would be good,

Garlic is there any specific reason why Aussies generally don't follow or watch cricket in the winter, of course having winter cricket on pay makes a difference, but even the Winter Ashes are followed less in Australia.

bhaveshgor, following on from what from-the-stands had to say about this the other day, the reporting of the first day's play in the local paper was a good illustration of this.

If it was a home test, it would have been bage page or the next page in. Yesterday it was 6 pages in. After such rarely reported sports (using that word loosely here) as local hot rod/funny car races.

Being against a non-traditional strong rival has some effect here. If it was against India, the interest would be higher, if it was the Ashes, much higher still. But, what f-t-s says about footy - Rubgy League, Union, Aussie Rules, even Football - taking the interest of most fans and therefore the media (or should that be the other way around?). Having said that, the sports segment of the news on the radio just came on and the lead news was the test - but that is the ABC. In real media terms, most Australians don't give the ABC much time.

Paper? What's that?

Just kidding.

The current score is the lead sports item on the ABC webpage, channel 9, Fairfax media webpages, second on channel 7 and no-where to been seen on Channel 10. It's buried about 5th on the Murdoch rags. There is coverage, but that's probably because there's not much else on at the moment. Tomorrow evening, expect it to be buried under an avalanche of Aussie Rules and rugby items.

and mine is a Fairfax paper.

Do you really go to all of these websites, or was it an exercise to see?

Yes, there is (some) coverage, but nothing like the blanket coverage of footy (choose your city, choose your code).
