Disposable income could have gone on a day out and now goes on Sky subscriptions - do you see one day a year all every ball bowled?

I took a friend to his first game on Friday - T20 at the Riverside and Durham lost for the first time all season at home. I told him he was a jinx but he insists on returning anyway!

I aslo don't think that the present team has a figure with a broad based appeal who people want to see do well. A Freddie. Sometimes a hometown player may have that appeal. I'm not sure Jimmy Anderson has it (relating to Old Trafford), or anyone in the England Test side.

By the way not even comparing viewing figures to the Channel 4 days but to when Sky got the cricket, Cricket ratings been falling each year every year since 2011.

the only format doing well is T20 and ICC events.

Find it ridiculous that a small minority get such a huge say in England.

If ECB don't change quick they would kill cricket in this country which wouldn't be that hard considering they actively exclude 45% of the potential cricketers add in that middle class or working class white people don't actually play or watch cricket and then cricket isn't really seen as a cool or massively watch sport in the masses and you end up with such a small population willing to watch cricket or are probably lucky enough to have such good resources to play for england.

I dont think the money is the issue. Its just most of the team are intolerable.

In the modern era, that of Cook and Strauss, transportation costs are so dear that I wouldn't bother.

I wonder how many people would be impacted by that.

A lot Imagine considering I was kind of hoping to go old trafford if it was a good day play in prospect since i knew before hand sunday/monday had poor ticket sales but transports and then buying the tickets would kind of make it expensive day out although people living in Manchester had no excuses considering the ticket were not that expensive on both days.

probably would have gone if it was like lords day 4.

I like to see Chris Woakes do well... Probably that's it. James Taylor might have given me another. But it's an improvement.

the only good things about this summers teams is that cost has came down.
Oval dropped by an half, lords was slightly cheaper as well.
Old trafford, Yorkshire all had good prices only Durham was expensive compared to those two and everyone knows how the attendance was like there.

paying above 80 pounds for a day play of cricket is just not on.

Always cracks me up when ECB says it would fix the Asian problem and they never do.

So there are other impacts then.

Yes I can quite imagine some of that coming out of their mouths!

Chris Woakes and Taylor for sure.

Don't mind Bairstow or Butler or Root (despite his antics).

probably the case considering the crowd only really like Root or Anderson.
Although saying that been to about 5 or 6 Test matches and majority of the people I been sitting next to have no idea which players are even playing for england or what even happening.
always baffles me why anyone would pay money to get drunk and get a sun tan.

I am sure one of my learned friends will correct me but Durham has to be so expensive to recoup how much they pay for the Test?

It's those dastardly ECB folks at it again.

Anyway I think that I mean to say that a dwindling crowd does not necessarily mean a lack of support for the Test format.

How so?It's a normal work day, with Pakistan dead and buried before the day began.

Surely England the country that supposedly loves Test cricket or Cricket could muster more than 6,533 people.

Imho pakistan being dead and buried should have nothing to do with it if the ticket were sold an ages ago.
and just 7 days ago half the tickets available for this test were available and about 40% of tickets are available for the oval test.
Quite pathetic how so many people are happy to brush it aside.

The match situation would only help walk in sales and surely Lancashire were not dependent on Walk in sales for a Test match.

suspect the english comm will embarrass themselves when the odi/T20 start when their start bashing the pakistani fans for turning up.

Cricket is dead in this country more should be done to get 45 percent of people that do not come to the cricket ground each summer to watch cricket, more should be done to convert them to english supporters, more should be done to get them to the county circuit and more should be done to help the cricket in the cities.

I don't know what you were expecting to be honest. Crowds at the weekend were pretty good, but it's Monday with the game already 90% decided and there has been press about uncertain weather. If it had been the Ashes the OT would have been sold out, Pakistan aren't a huge draw, despite the fact they're a decent side.
