Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Well, it was an aspect of the Test under discussion.

Cricket must be the only game where sledging and abusive comments are tolerated, still remember when one of my mates couldn't understand how cricketers can threaten players in the field and nothing happens and is seen as part of the game.
he couldn't get around how often bowlers say to batsman I am going to kill you and how that can be tolerated after the hughes accident.

weirdest part is that the sledge I am going to kill you isn't that bad as a sledge, it is probably the ones where sledging works where the bowlers are bowling quick and the batsman doing well to survive.
it is the abusive ones that mention kids, wifes anything personal etc that is not on.

it is quite bad that essentially most teams got 3-4 players opposition or fans hate and a lot of that is due to Sledging or behaviour.

Do you think it is fine to abuse umpires then?
wasn't even the first time he abused umpires this year, abused S ravi against Sri lanka.

exactly quite odd a few posters can't tolerate any criticism England or English players get.

Although do remember quite a few poster defending Anderson in the Anderson/Jadeja spat so it doesn't surprise me.

What did Jimmy actually say to the umpires though? I've watched most of the last two test so haven't read much of the press coverage, is there an actual quote as to what said verbatim as it seems a little difficult to cast a judgement without such information.

It wasn't reported what was said. Given he apologised, it's clear even Anderson realised he had overstepped acceptability. Knowing what he said might make the offence seem worse (as when we heard the astonishing diatribe at the expense of Jadeja) but even without knowing, it's undeniable that unprovoked dissent took place, which isn't right.

I wouldn't say an apology really means much, if he thought there was any danger of him being brought in front of the match referee then he'd have been daft not to regardless of what was said, i'd imagine that Cook would have said the same. The snatching of the jumper and hand gestures were not the best, though I don't know whether or not they would justify a charge of dissent towards an umpire on their own.

I seem to remember seeing something on the coverage that at the time jimmy didn't think he'd crossed the line, but on seeing the tv coverage of it realised he needed to apologise

I think it was more for showing dissent and after the apology the umpires decided not to report him

Had he said something distasteful to them surely they would have reported him even though he apologised

It is enough for a level 1 breach, essentially the same breach a send off could get.

Have fast bowlers not always been like this

There have been lots of great bowlers who loved a chirp and used it to get themselves fired up

That bit of aggression is what makes them great competitors

Doesn't mean it should still go on.
Also big difference in being an competitor and abusing people in the field.

A level 1 breach contains all sorts, including things like shaking your head and looking at the edge of your bat when given out LBW, or indeed snatching one's cap so I suppose a jumper would also count as Anderson did. They are rarely applied though.

I'd say that Backfoot is spot on, if anything actually abusive or offensive had been said then an apology wouldn't stop a report.

In short, this seems to be much ado about nothing really, unless we're going to find out the content of any verbal comments.

Looks like red is spot on different rules for Anderson.
Quite laughable really how most English fans still defend Anderson pathetic behaviour.

Making splinter they do enforce it when icc wants to I believe in recent times icc been strict in icc events, ashes and India vs Australia series but been lenient outside those series.

India vs Australia any stuff automatic fine and the ashes were similar.
World Cup all teams had a Warning.

Really is a joke you either enforce it at all time or you don't at all.
