Is that bigging it up?

t was really disappointing to finish the series with defeat at the Oval, but we also know how well we did to fight back from 1-0 down against a Pakistan side packed with quality.

A 2-2 draw is no disgrace

would really love to know where the quality is in the pakistan side.
England should have easily won this series at home.

Pakistan have a decent pace attack, plus a very good spinner who done them in, in two tests in which we lost.

To say we done well to get it back from one down is definitely 100% not bigging anything up.

Pakistan fought very well in the London tests and England were the better side in the other two.

I felt a drawn series was fair enough. Many expected Pakistan to roll over before the series started and only the rain would prevent a 4-0 hammering so Pakistan have shown that they can put up a fight.

Yeah pakistan played well but England players surely can't be happy with the results considering they haven't actually played well and really it is because of them being poor which allowed pakistan to draw the series considering pakistan haven't been that great either.
pakistan batting been average and bowlers been ok or crap.

No way should England be happy with a 2-2 draw.

Don't get me wrong 2-2 is a fair result but the english players shouldn't be happy with it or be celebrating it as an achievement.

Who said they were happy with 2-2? Bairstow said they done well to come back after being 1 down, and also 2-2 is no disgrace.

He also mentioned that they were disappointed to finish with a defeat.

Happy to disagree but not sure players should be ok with an 2-2 draw especially when they could have actually lost the series 3-1 and haven't really played much good cricket in this series.

For once I agree with hope, they really isn't many positives from this result barring Bairstow/Woakes and possibly ali batting.

TBH looking at the past 5 yrs this is another sign of England not being cruel and winning series they should be winning quite easily or when the exception is they should be thrashing teams.
WI 1-1
NZ 0-0
Sri Lanka 1-0.

but been very good when they are not expected to win against top teams.
India away 2-1
won in Australia in 2010/11
SA last winter.
Australia last summer in England.

Fair enough they shouldn't be happy but have they said they're happy with the overall result of 2-2? Have any of the players 'bigged' it up either?

TBH many players have stayed quiet only bairstow done a column yet.
Broad probably banned from doing one this week, if he does one next week then we should know more but guessing we won't be hearing from broad till india since Daily mail or broad doesn't say or do a colum unless broad does well or england do well in a test match very rarely does broad do a piece on Sunday if England are being thrashed or close to a loss.

Although to be fair players didn't celebrate the 2-2 draw in oval and look like they were disappointed and really acted like it was a series loss, even Cook/Bayliss were attacking the top 5 and some of the players.

Pakistan are a good side, and England have several major weaknesses. I've said all along that I don't know why everyone had England as heavy favourites, home advantage notwithstanding. 2-2 seems like a pretty fair series result to me.

England are going to get mauled in India unless they solve some problems, fast - batting and spin bowling were questionable at the start of the summer, and by the end we're no closer to a solution. On TMS Alec Stewart was advocating taking an old county pro like Gareth Batty to India, a la Shaun Udal in 2006. It makes a lot of sense to me. How often do we play two spinners anyway? So on the rare occasion that we do, pick a good one, not one who's 22 and we hope might develop into a good spinner some day.

Wonder if Bairstow read this forum lol.
http://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/3 ... finals-day
"We will look back on this series with a bit of disappointment, having been 2-1 up and with a chance to win the series.

But we will take the blow and move on from it. As the captain said the other day, it's a bit of a wake-up call if you like, which is not necessarily a bad thing."

Well done to Pakistan on their unlikely, nomadic rise to the top of the Test rankings.
