But hey, if he continues to average big numbers on pitches that are dead or against the mgiht of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, people will still think he is world class.

Didn't he make 77 in the first innings, against the same attack, on the same pitch, coming in with a wicket very early on?

Short term memory loss there, Sussex?

Watling gets a life, Van Zyl drops a pretty simple chance, should have been 28-5!

Scores would suggest this pitch is not the same one as the match started..... conditions have deteriorated.

The ball was doing plenty in the first New Zealand innings, they were 3 for 26 at one point. If Williamson had gotten out for 5 they would have been in about the same position they are now.

Williamson has scored a ton against every Test nation, pretty impressive for an average batsman, if only England could find a similarly average looking player for their middle order at present.

A few just starting to fly through now...real hard work here for NZ, tough examination of techniques and mindsets, however these two bowlers will need a rest soon, both bowling long spells..

More relevant is his overall performance against each team. Has no 40 plus average against England, India, Pakistan or South Africa..... in fact, his only 100 vs South Africa will rank as the luckiest ever, he edged all over the place and got lucky that they bounced short, he then was caught out clearly but the tv umpire said the picture of a ball with fingers under it was incoclusive, he was then I believed dropped three times ..... all before he made 20. Pom Mbwanga reclassified the innings as the luckiest 100 he had ever seen.

He averages 83 vs BD
He averages 78 vs Zimbabwe
He averages 51 on dead pitches of the Windies
He averages 92 vs Sri Lanka, but one of those hundreds was played against a 5 man attack where only Herath had taken 10 test wickets at the time. His 200 against them in NZ wasnt the only 200 in the match, a solid test match wicket that.

Has a 49 average against Australia.... his century at Brisbane came on a tough pitch that yielded 5 different centurians and a further 3 scored of 70 plus from only 18 wickets that fell in the first 4 days. In the following test he also scored a 100, but on a pitch that yielded a score of 250 plus for each team, and a further 4 scores of over 100.....

Basically, put him against terrible bowling attacks or on pancake flat pitches, he looks a ledge....

Put him on anything that does much or against a decent attack, he is underwhelming.

Even his 100 at Lords was on a pretty sluggish pitch. When was the last time England scored nearly 500 in a second innings?

Steyn bowled a long 9 over spell, i wonder how many times he has done that in his career, particuarly in recent times...was very impressive though, good pace, swing, hostile, seriously hard work for the kiwi batsmen

Watling's gone LBW to Piedt, 85-5...Santner comes in first ball and runs down the pitch to Piedt, ball turned square..could be all over quickly..

Flicked it on for a bit, but turned it off now the result is no longer in question.

Philander's still a class act...33 Tests, a bowling average of 22.
Nobody has a stance quite like the mighty Shivnarine....
